My red mild winter bike is a standard diamond frame bike. It's a "Roadmaster" but not really because it's AMF. Kinda like a Schwinn (and many others) high tensile steel diamond frame but a cheaper fork (sorry, not a mountain bike). It originally had 26x3/8" tires/wheels on it. The new 26"...
Great Find!!
Love these twin straight bars especially when they continue all the way to the drop out(like yours). I think they made them 3 years and there is a number on the left drop out that you can look up as to the batch that was made that day.here is one link...
Great idea! Very Cool! I really enjoy seeing what other people are riding too. Mostly I've seen hipsters with fixes, slicks, and a little rear fender (good for them, LOL), seriously expensive cyclocross bikes, full dress commuters with studded tires, and now a lot of fat tire bikes. Once in a...
Switching It Up
I forgot to thank the people that "liked" the second to the last post (still getting used to "likes") so Thanks Randy, Twister, Dale and 3 others who I don't think I can see any more (?).
Thanks Luke!
Thanks Dale, Sorry you've been through both too. Yeah I'm working on...
Tell me if you get sick of these ride pics....
Got out yesterday for a great way to start off the new year. High 20's, cloudy and 10mph wind so not too bad. It's surprising how much snow can melt with salt and 2 sunny days (yet below zero) so I took my mild winter bike out. It goes no handed...
Randy, you have all kinds of trouble with animals don't ya, LOL. First it was the cow, then porcupine, numerous dogs, bear (ha), snake, and now deer. You must have a lot of animal magnetism.;) Thanks for the laughs, keep 'em coming. Steve
Great pictures and story of your ride us5!! I sure hope I'm ice riding when I'm pushing 70 :cool:
We had been getting a bunch of rain in Mpls so we had a Green Christmas because the grass started to grow again LOL! Went out the 26th on my mild winter bike (it had been cloudy for a week...
Some 24" that I've built:
Just cleaned this up this Spaceliner and put some aluminum wheels and new tires. Its for J and Little Guy when the come over and want to ride.
My adult sized Eliminator with 24"(505mm) rear and 24"(520mm)front
My great newphew's Bday present preWWII Goodyear...
Great story! Glad your having a blast with your homemade studded tire on the ice. Ice Bike Trails sound like fun. I've been in those situations where you're battling both ice crust and soft snow. I did a slow-slow wipe out a few weeks ago thinking a bank was solid when it wasn't LOL.
We...
Thanks!
I'm glad the studs don't slow you down. Looking forward to pics.
You are a brave soul riding at -20F. I only can ride when the windchill is above 0F.
Yeah coaster brake, my favorite hub! Here's a closer shot.
Ride On!
Steve
I know about this but I don't ride as often as you do. I use drops once in a while but otherwise my regular glasses work pretty well. Used to have great prescription sun glasses (now gone) but my transition lens are doing okay. We get really bright sunshine sometimes after a new snow and...
Dinner Drama and a sad note
Thank Luke!
Thans Dale! Yeah, our favorite one closes too. I'm pretty sure they give FIL the frequent customer upgrade :) (see below)
Thanks Donzi!
Yeah FIL is doing okay. Thanks for being concerned Nagant. I'm still cursing daily with 8.1 but I'll adapt...
Thanks! I wanted to do something that would show off the straight bars so was thinking bright Schwinn yellow but with the white tires (and I got lazy) I just took off the paint and polished/clear coated it. Do you got a link/pic of your 62?
I also kinda like the look it has in this pics with...
We've already had a fair amount of snow and cold (a little early this year). Last night it dropped ~1.5" of powder. After getting my shoveling done I headed out on my winter bike. Modern aluminum frame but cantilever style and I can get knobby snow tires on it.
I built it a few years ago and...
Finally got my Schwinn Twin Straight Bar done. Couldn't figure out what color or wheels to use until I got some Schwalbe Fat Franks for $15 a piece (SCORE!). So another bare metal bike but I tried to keep some of the Schwinn style like the original seat (now panified) and handlebar style (now...
Well I just snuck in at the end. This shot is from the Fall Ride. I gave 56T to my Wife who (I didn't realize, oops) really loves aqua. I put on a lower seat for her and she really likes riding it. I think it actually looks a little better with the lower seat. She got a lot of nice comments...
Belated Update
Sorry, fell off the grid for a while. Our good ole computer went down and it took us a long time to decide whether to fix something that worked well or "upgrade" to something that doesn't LOL. But now I'm back and swearing my way through windows 8.1 Arghhh!
You are right Luke...
I like the Continental Contact (better than Contact II) Well made, excellent ride, and almost bullet proof. I have many miles on mine. Sometimes they go on sale at REI and with membership discount they are a reasonable price.
