    Potential Acquisition: Hyper Cruiser

Hhmm, am I picking up a trend here? Thank you gentlemen!

    Schwinn Debbie Among the Flowers

This 18" bike went from being sad at the curb to resting among my wife's flowers (her idea). It may eventually go to our granddaughter, who is currently a fan of the "Pinkalicious" series of books. According to the head badge, Debbie started out in Chicago. p.s. Yes, I know, the window box...

    Potential Acquisition: Hyper Cruiser

This is up on Craigslist. I kinda like that frame. I see that Walmart sells these for $150. Anybody out there have any experience with one of these? Quality? Riding characteristics? Karma?

    New acquisition: Sun Retro 24-inch

Update: The bike didn't get many miles; there are others, including a Huffy Good Vibrations 24", that are more pleasant to ride. In the mean time, grandson outgrew his 20" bikes. Therefore, we went back to the original 24" front fork and wheel and switched in a shorter seat post and a smaller...

    Wanna build this

Nice! I've read that during the 19th century, when lots of people were designing and building bikes, trikes were in the mix. There were two-in-the-front models, two-in-the-back models, and two-on-one side models. Yes, please post pics as you progress!

    Gear Ratio For Cruiser?

Cousin Ravenshurst: Horsefarmer gets it right. With all the variables involved, the only way to tune things to your needs is to get on the road and listen to your legs. Have fun!

Downside to riding your good stuff…

So, how many cars did you jump when that happened? Definitely try to repair it. You might try wrapping some bits of fiberglass around the outside of the socket and applying epoxy resin. Looking at other molded plastic saddles, that one doesn't seem to have much beef.

are mid 70s 10 speed questions allowed in ratrods?

Perhaps the Committee for the Preservation of Bicycle Purity should convene to consider this request. Once you allow questions on 10-speeds, before you know it, there will be questions about 12-speeds. It's a slippery slope.

    Bell Rollerless chains

Yes, it makes you wonder how much extra wear the sprockets would experience. We need a volunteer to do an experiment: start with two identical bikes except one with a roller chain and one with a rollerless chain. Measure the sprockets, ride them the same distance*, and measure the sprockets...

    Columbia Coyote

Nice Coyote! With a little work (or perhaps a little neglect), you could turn it into something cool like this.

Retrospec Sully Klunker or State Klunker

Freewheel rules. Easier to get on. Easier to get off. Brakes work better. Position your feet where you want. I agree with Oak Tree except I believe that a freewheeler is superior for cruising.

    Modern multi-speed hubs?

Yes, always have a front brake. In most of Europe, it's the law. Front brakes are much more effective than rear brakes. I find myself getting annoyed with coaster brakes. Everything is better with two rim brakes (or discs) and a freewheel: getting on the bike, coming to an intersection, getting...

    Cruiser saddle hardware sourcing

Cousin Irontri: Cleaning up saddle hardware ain't that hard. Take it apart, go over it with emery cloth and/or steel wool, wipe down with denatured alcohol, and brush on some Testors enamel (the little bottles). I've used Flat Steel (1180), Flat Black (1149), and Semi-gloss Black (1139)...

    Body Glove Cruiser

Professor Thundrrr: Thank you for advancing my education. As I understand Alan Bonds, a clunker is a vintage (pre-war through 1950's) coaster brake bike mildly modified for off-road use. Mild modifications include stripping off fenders and chain guards and adding clunky tires. The next...

Thanks. I was thinking of a new paint job but you make a good point. And no cost and no labor!

Brother Bart: I think just for cruisin', but what's the official definition of Klunker?

    Body Glove Cruiser

As mentioned earlier, I wanted a little lower gear ratio. The 7-speed hub is a free hub and to keep a straight chain line I was on the 18-tooth cog. I took the cassette apart and found that the smallest cog threaded on to hold the whole thing together. The second cog was separate and the rest...

    Closest Beach to My House

If you make vinegar from starfruit, isn't there an intermediate step where you have starfruit wine? Might not be very good for soaking bike parts, but it may be useful nevertheless.

    Carpentry in the Bike Bunker

One can only hope that earns you some credit with the powers that be, which can be drawn against in the future.

    Skateboard Blues

Cousin Oak: Ouch! I didn't know wheels could do that. My skateboard days were back in the Composite Wheel period (somewhat later than the Jurassic, but not much). If it's not too private a question, what part of your anatomy did you land on?
