Fix This - Updated 4/25 with NEW pics

Re: Fix This I tend to ride with my hands on in the drops or the brake hoods, and the levers are at my fingertips either way. I don't really use the flat section at the top of the bars, so your lever placement wouldn't work for me. It's mainly a matter of personal preference. Do you grip the...

Re: I just finished modifying two frames... Nice work and welcome aboard! The pink bike was just begging to be hacked up, what a mess that thing was before you fixed it. :D

I've got a load of extensions also; chatzilla, noscript, greasemonkey, torrent searchbar, add & edit cookies, etc. At work, I also use IE tab and DOM inspector quite a bit. Love the firefox.

Excellent! I'm glad a forum member got it! The red MTB doesn't look too bad as a single speed. I'd probably hang on to it. :D

Fix This - Updated 4/25 with NEW pics

Re: Fix This Nice and simple! I prefer to keep the brake lever at my fingertips though... Did you re-dish the rear wheel or change the spacers at all?

    Help choosing a road bike

I agree with cman, used road bikes are under appreciated and undervalued in a lot of markets right now. I've seen dozens of good quality bikes at flea markets and pawn shops for less than $200. If you choose to buy used, take your time and refer to Bikepedia and bikeforums.net to be sure of what...

How to build a low-buck Fixie

The first time you ride one and forget about that, it feels like it wants to throw you over the bars! Good fun! I've borrowed a friend's Surly Steamroller and the simplicity is really cool, but I like having brakes... And coasting.

    VDUB Advice (PICS ADDED 4/10/08)

Re: VDUB Advice 2manybikes's advice on the auto trans is right on the money, if you need an auto, look elsewhere. VW didn't really start producing reliable auto trannys until at least the late-80's (and maybe not even then...) Another thing to consider is that the Super Beetle has a...

    VDUB Advice (PICS ADDED 4/10/08)

Re: VDUB Advice VDubs don't like to sit for a long time, they tend to disintegrate. Rust is the big killer, but if it's not too bad, it could be worth your time. Check under the carpets in the and in the battery box beneath the back seat, that's where the worst of it usually is. The other big...

    LBS

The local trek dealer is similar, I'd be surprised if they have anything that's more than a year or two old. A pretty showroom, but you'll never discover a vintage gem in the back room.

    MrVelo Lowrider

A carbide lantern uses calcium carbide crystals and a water drip. When they combine, it produces acetylene gas, which burns in a reflector. Despite the gas, they're actually quite safe. It's only when you throw a big handful of the stuff in enough water, like in a school's toilet for example...
