    Defiance - Aannnnnd it's done!

I think I recall seeing same early Schwinn springers had a small rebound spring in place of the black rubber bushing- might be where your bolt is from. Always meant to get an old valve spring from a lawnmower or something and replace it on mine to take the sudden stop out of the up stroke.

'57 Schwinn "Krunk Junk" New shoes

Krunkx i dig it. As for your brake dilemma, hit the bay for 'Weinmann right angle' and it'll return these little gems designed to mount caliper brakes to (Schwinn) fender mounts. Usually about $15.

Diggin' the nice flat crossbar. Could be cool with some creative decaling... alternate colors of schWINn playing on the old Win with Schwinn ads. As in take a white downtube decal and overlay WIN in red or whatever.

    La Esperanza

And a gratuitous pic for those of you out there who might be old enough to remember when auto parts countermen wore company hats: AAP was the store my dad owned back in the late 70's/early 80's and he built this bike in the back to try to lose a little weight and get back into riding (he...

    La Esperanza

As luck would have it, the one thing I might change is the bars in favor of of Al's aluminium KOS bars. I promise not to steel wool them 'till we've had a chance to chat (see, I learn form my mistakes lol)

    La Esperanza

The original build as I received it was red anno/red frame, so this build with the gold anno/metallic maroon frame is a bit of a deviation, but what the heck, I'm 42 not 12, it's time for a 'Gentleman's Cruiser' and I can honestly say I am saving $2500 by being "inaccurate". Once upon a time...

    La Esperanza

Well, progress is stymied due to the fires I'am afraid. Was gunna roll up to LA this weekend and pick up the new frame and the donor bike, but it seems both major arteries between here and there are in the fire zone, so that's no go. I did at least make some decisions though. I hadn't been...

    CYCO

Could be part of the joke... put one of those rare earth super-duper magnets under the stem, and the needle follows wherever you turn bars lol. Or maybe in the bar ends and as the end gets closer they affect it more...

    CYCO

Could put something really silly in that hole just to make people go Huh? like a sundial or barometer or something. Or if you could find a large antique compass it could be your analog GPS system.

(Slammed Trike) doing the finishing touches...

Sry, Purple Power, you can get it at auto parts stores or even Walmart. It's like Simple Green in that it's a water based "soap" and not acetone or whathaveyou but it's very basic like lye... dissolves the fat right out of your skin and you peel for days. Shouted few choice words today as I had...

I'd try that purple stuff on the tire, but wear gloves it'll suck the fat out your hands...

    DRAG KING ___Raceliner Dragster___

This is one of those builds that makes the rest of us feel like hacks. Just flat sunning talent here.

Retro and classic bicycle survey. (with prizes to be won)

1 1/8 stems that aren't fugly. Soooo many 26" forks out that aren't terrible and/or allow disk brakes but by the sweat of Odin's scrotum the stems are hideous! If I had any talent I'd be CNC'ing Atom style hubs with a dynamo inside but I digress... surey done for ya.

    BACK IN 74

Is the fender in that kit aluminium? One of the older kinds on the block had one with that rubber mud flap I always just assumed was a school shop project. Complete with electrical tape racing stripe of course.

Ug. it's 105 outside and the northern half of .... is on fire... good day to be inside. This mess is going this direction...

Lowey Speedster (world's slowest build thread)

lol, don't have enough skill to draw bars :( Leaning either towards the aluminium KOS tribute bars or maybe just some aluminium ATV bars. There's a famous pic of him in the studio working on the 53 with a big poster on the wall with their motto- "Weight is the Enemy"

Lowey Speedster (world's slowest build thread)

The early stages...the crap no one but me will ever notice: cleaned up the drop outs...sexy getting rid of the carbuncles left over from the electro-forging and chainguard tabs and such. 90% sure I'm going to lose the kickstand and use this one: it's Italian and aluminium after all...

Lowey Speedster (world's slowest build thread)

And of course, the inspiration for this build, the famous 'Lowey Coupe' (here a hardtop) So the idea is something that would look at home next to a Starliner or Avanti- European styling but American steel. I'm starting with this 1967 Schwinn Fleet as it has the magic tabs for the Slimline...

Lowey Speedster (world's slowest build thread)

There's no way that I'd have the patience to wait for the next BO to start his project, and/or won't have the funds to collect the parts to finish it this summer, so it goes here all by it's lonesome. So. While I may bleed Ford blue (I build Cammer's as my day job), in my heart I'm a Studebaker...
