No. 3 build ready to kick off...

INTAKE MANIFOLD DONE and CARB INSTALLED... Season's greetings to everyone. Having polished off the last of the cold turkey, I felt the urge to resume work on build No. 3. After buying myself a 26mm flat slide carb for Christmas, I needed to figure out how best to fit this to my vintage Gnome &...

No. 3 build ready to kick off...

Thanks for the heads-up re the server error issue. At least it let me post a new message, so here goes another attempt to add the missing portion of text from my original first posting in this new build thread. Assume the following reads on from the first message... ...Those superb heavy duty...

No. 3 build ready to kick off...

Anyone else having trouble uploading a post and/or pics? Yesterday I spent several hours typing and re-typing the above new thread message and trying to upload the associated pics - and every time I hit the 'post message' button, an 'internal server error' message flagged up saying my request...

No. 3 build ready to kick off...

The parts stash for my No. 3 motorized bicycle build has begun to grow. I just bid on and won a suitable 'vintage' motor for the project on eBay - a spiffy 1946 Gnome et Rhone 2 stroke featuring hand change gears - which I bagged for the unbelievably stingy sum of 19 pounds, way less than the...

    Gender Benders

My DECOLINER makes extensive use of different sized half-round aluminium trim. The tank's trim strip was easily formed to shape using the unpainted tank as a buck - or in the case of the fender trim, progressively curved to correct profile using my rolling bars as shown in the lower pic.

Show me your cool little details! ~:The Little Things:~

My China Girl motor trying it's hardest to look a little different from the crowd... Dropped board-tracker handlebars fabbed using cut bars and cheap diecast/plated mirror brackets...

    LETS SEE HAWTHORNE BICYCLES !!!!!!!!

My Wards Hawthorne step thru - slightly modified.... It'd be nice if someone could help shine a light on what year serial no. J04726 is from ... Probably not another here in the UK.

    'DECOLINER' build underway...

Leo, Thanks for the kind words. You may not be able to see it in the pics, but I already drilled a 1mm dia. hole dead centre in the gas tank's filler cap. I found that to be necessary after I test-filled the tank with water to check for pin-hole leaks in my tank's 'welded' (read brazed)...

DECOLINER ALMOST DONE... With the fuel tank installed and the electrics hooked-up, my DECOLINER build is all but done. Always sad to bring a build to its finale, (at least it is for me 'cause I enjoy building stuff more than anything else) but what a rewarding project this has been. The TRM tank...

    'DECOLINER' build underway...

MEANWHILE, BACK OVER AT THE DECOLINER BUILD... It's been a bit 'two steps forwards, one step backwards' with DECOLINER's build this last week or so. After building my own gas tank, I was all set to proceed with my plan to stow it inside a brown leather saddle bag slung behind the bike's Brooks...

    'DECOLINER' build underway...

STASHING PARTS FOR MY NEXT BUILD.... Apologies for this off-topic post, but with the finishing post in sight on my DECOLINER build, I've begun thinking about my next build. I fancy tackling a repro patina'd flat tanker - complete with belt drive and a host of vintage accoutrements. With this in...

    'DECOLINER' build underway...

A FEW SMALL JOBS.... While waiting for the 1/8" NPT hose tail needed for the gas tank to be delivered, I crossed-off a few more small jobs today on DECOLINER. Fitted the tail light, hooked-up a Sturmey Archer front brake lever (with handbrake function) and cable, detailed the motor with some...

FUEL TANK PARTS WELDED... I'm done 'welding' DECOLINER's fuel tank. This was a first for me - I've never welded aluminium before. I used a mix of Durafix and Alubuild 300 brazing rods for this, with nothing more than a butane gas torch as a heat source - and I'm pretty pleased how things turned...

FUEL TANK ... PARTS READY TO ASSEMBLE DECOLINER's alloy fuel tank parts are now ready to be welded... Haven't yet decided if the tank will be on display or hidden inside a leather bag suspended behind the Brooks saddle.

LEFT/RIGHT CHAIN GUARDS INSTALLED... Now the alloy chain guard parts have been polished, here's a sequence of pics showing the components and their installation. Can't yet fasten the rearmost end of the bumper guard to the fender till after the tail-light I've ordered shows up. Sharp-eyed folks...

    'DECOLINER' build underway...

CHAIN GUARDS / FENDER BUMPER FABRICATED... With both of DECOLINER's chains fitted, I turned my attention to designing/making the left/right chain guards. In keeping with the bike's deco theme, I wanted to create the impression of 'speed whiskers' flowing from the polished alloy motor mount all...

TANK LIGHTS INSTALLED... Not been able to do much on DECOLINER these last few days. This weekend I found it hard to tear myself away from watching TV coverage of the Elite Women & Men's road race in Bergen, Norway. However, I did manage one small job, installing the 12v marker lights into the...

    'DECOLINER' build underway...

FENDERS FITTED... The ducktail fenders I ordered from Classic Cycles in Germany over the weekend showed up today - so I wasted no time fitting them to DECOLINER. Ducktail fenders were unobtainable in the UK and purchasing them from the US would have been just too expensive what with import duty...

WORKIN' ON DECOLINER's EXHAUST... These latest pics show progress on the Decoliner's exhaust. I've temporarily posed the exhaust on the bike to show how things are shaping up. Just not sure yet how long the tail pipe will finally be - so it may be cut down in the near future. I'm pleased how the...
