    ** Let's see your Bicycle Winter pic's **

Not exactly the frozen tundra, but I do ride in the snow from time to time.

    And she said . . .

    A Trek Verve 3.

    Specialized 1999 Crossroads Sport

Went to the LBS today to pick up tubes and tires, Bontrager LT2 Comp 700x38. Narrowest tires I've had on a bike since I had a single speed, coaster brake, drop bar 26" bike in my late teens. I considered going wider on the front since the fork has so much room, but decided to stick with the same...

    And she said . . .

My wife has been asking questions about my latest build. I thought she might be annoyed with me, until I said "I'm planning to sell my white bike to make room for the newest build." Her: "You're planning to sell the white bike? Isn't it pretty lightweight?" Me: "Not as light as you'd think for...

    Specialized 1999 Crossroads Sport

Wheelset arrived today, nice and trued by the seller. This bike is certainly different from my Trek hybrid, on which I currently run 700x50, and could fit even wider tires. On the Specialized frame, the 700x50 fits fine up front, but won't even come close in the back. I took the new rear wheel...

    Specialized 1999 Crossroads Sport

Although this isn't truly vintage, it's likely as vintage as I'm going to get. It's my 4th bike build, and I do have a lot of fun rebuilding frames into something rideable. I'm building it as a single speed, and one of the pics shows my Rennen Rollenlager chain tensioner that came this morning...

Sigh ... waiting for parts to arrive.

I'll admit I get impatient sometimes when things don't arrive when I expect them, but then I have to remind myself it's just bike parts. The beating we've been taking with this huge weather system across the country has delayed a lot of things, and my bike parts aren't life-changing. I had a...

Sigh ... waiting for parts to arrive.

Yep. Waiting on a few myself. Funny thing is I ordered one part from the UK and it was here in WV in a week. I've had other parcels from a few hundred miles away take 3-4 weeks - or just vanish into thin air. Shaking my head.

    1999 Specialized Crossroads Sport

A bit of work yesterday afternoon, using parts raided from my meager stash of leftovers from other projects.

    1999 Specialized Crossroads Sport

It's a steel frame. I'm not going to try any frame modification; I'd just mess it up if I tried it myself, and it's not an important enough issue to pay someone to do it. I'll just have to live with whatever tires will fit in 700C. I'm going to take it to the LBS for some size comparison.

    1999 Specialized Crossroads Sport

The big white toy delivery truck dropped off my steel 1999 Specialized Crossroads Sport frame this morning. It just needs a good cleaning, but it's in fine shape. Not so good is that the rear won't hold the fat 700x50 tires my other hybrid frame holds. Not even close. Oops. I knew the frame was...

    Tire size Q

Thanks for that info, Wildcat. That will help me in my search.

    Tire size Q

Thanks for the replies. I guess I phrased my question incorrectly; I know the measurement we use is for the tire outer diameter, which actually changes based on the tire width. The 700C by 40 sounds interesting. In both of my current bikes, I ride a large (20" & 20.5") frame. One is a 700C and...

    Tire size Q

I've been mulling over building a SS klunker from an old frame. I know 26" was the most prevalent size for such bikes, but were there ever any made with larger diameter wheels? I saw on another thread here where someone had installed 27.5" wheels on an old Phantom frame. Will any of the old...

    Hello from WV

Hello all. First post here, although I've posted in the FB group. I've kinda caught the bike building bug over the past few years. First was a fat bike I threw together using an old Mongoose Beast frame and parts from here and there. Rode it for a few years, gave it away, and built another bike...
