    RRBBO13 ☆El Green Go☆1968 Schwinn Panther☆

I decided to give it a good scrubbing before disassembly so I took it out back a and gave it a bath. It still has quite a bit of shine for a bike that turns 50 next month, I looked into the serial number and found it was built in June of 1968. Its a bit more scuffed and scraped than it looked...

I threw some parts at it to see what fit, so far I think this may be the direction I go. The front rack is era correct, although aftermarket Wald, it also easily holds a six pack of pints firmly with no wiggle. The stem is off a late 60s Schwinn light weight with alloy low riser bars which...

I built an early 60s Jaguar with copper tone paint and slim tank in the first Winter Build Off, "Draguar" Hmmmm, I could go that route again.

I was puzzled by that picture when doing my research, the one on the far left looks blue but they didn't make a Panther in blue so must green, just didn't translate on paper. Serial #says it was made in June 1968 so it'll have it's 50th birthday during the build off, that's pretty cool.

When I bought this frame I didn't notice that it had tabs for a slimline tank. I'm wondering if I can use a repop full size tank with those tabs still in place or not. If anyone has any experience or even wants to b.s. or guesstimate, feel free to chime in. If anyone has a ratty slimline tank...

I decided to start out slow, so I took the grips off and gave them a soaking in some Dawn and a good toothbrush scrubbing. The bottom one is as found and the top is after a little cleaning. After about 5 minutes working on them and they're good as new.

I figure I'll throw my hat in the ring, again this year, not building to win just building to ride. Here's what I'm starting with I just recieved this from member@Decathlete today. I was told it's from 1968 which should make it a Panther as that was the only 26" canti that year to come in...

I've got a 3 speed that's been refinished, if you don't mind it not being black w/flames.

Huff In Paint~ '55 Huffy Customliner

Here's the finished product, satin black 1955 Huffy Customliner. My starting point; From there I stripped it down to bare metal, shot and sanded 3 coats of red oxide primer, topped that with Rustoleum satin black, further flattened with steel wool. I stripped the front side of the chainguard...

Its amazing how quickly something can go from a pile of parts to a finished bike. I got the seat finished last night and got everything together this afternoon. Here's some pictures for now, I'll hopefully get some better ones before the weekend.

I got the chainguard in order today, I hit the outer side with a flap wheel on an angle grinder and got it as shiny as possible while still keeping a horizontal sweep pattern. On the inside I left the original red paint, on the reverse I left enough paint to keep it ratty (just for @OddJob). I...

I've been busy lately so this project has sat on the sidelines, today I had some time. I stripped down an old Persons saddle, wire brushed and primered the top pan and cleaned and cleared the black/rusty bottom. Tomorrow I should get them back together with some fresh upholstery on top. I got...

After almost a month of stagnation due to weather (when it wasn't raining it was cold andvice versa) I finally got around to doing some work. Temps today were in the mid 70s and no rain gave me a chance to get the frame and fork stripped the rest of the way and a few coats of primer laid down...

I like the idea w/ the checkering but I'm not sure if black on red works or if I should do black and white, aged, on the red oxide. Thoughts?

Not too much to report folks, stripping paint is pretty boring business. I did do a bit of chrome removal on the front fender via flapwheel today. and played around with the idea of a checkered fender tip on at least the rear fender, mocked up on the front fender. Does any of this make sense?

I made some progress with the paint removal today. I had to order a new sprayer for the waterhose and a wire brush as the ones I had got lost when we moved last summer, but the replacements arrived today so I got on it.

Everything's torn down and ready for stripping. Its going to be a sunny 65° in San Antonio tomorrow so it should be good weather for stripping paint.

After staring at it off and on today I think I've decided to use the stock fork and mismatched fenders after all. So with that settled I can take it all apart and get started with stripping all that paint.

Sorry, I meant just the fender, the front fender is off an AMF. The fork is original. I mocked it up with the springer and the part of the fender that would be bobbed masked off with tape just to see how it would look. I'm on the fence. I think I prefer the original fork. I think that if I...
