With that seat/bar set up I think the chopper forks would look pretty cool. Great job with the frame, by the way, can't wait to see it once the welds are cleaned and filled.

How about using the original forks w/some home made truss rods that mimic the flow of the frame? Or the c triple tree, that frame would look pretty cool with chopper forks and giant apes, or clubman bars.

Thanks guys. In hindsight I wish I'd spent less time playing with the mock up and stripped some of the paint today. The temperature just dropped 25 degrees and plans to stay that way through the weekend. Oh well, there's wheels that need cleaning and rebuilding parts to degrease and polish and...

So you know how you have a build all figured out, you're ready to start stripping down the frame and moving on to paint, and then you see something in the corner of your shop that makes you rethink the whole thing? That's me today. So a while back I threw together a bit of a drag bike "Peggy...

That is Pepperbox Special in my avatar, probably the only bike I regret parting with. I wonder how many owners that frame has been through.

Sweet! Are you planning on using a bent springer? That may help with some of the headache.

R65062 3 I assumed the later number was the year, but if you're correct, it's a 65, which seems later than the chainguard and drop outs would suggest. Maybe it's been pieced together over the years, I had a Schwinn Jaguar once that the original owner had upgraded parts on every year or so, it...

Math is hard lol. The container holds a little over 5 quarts, long story and mathematic oversight aside, it works.:giggle:

The chainring is definitely a long jump from the megalithic 52 tooth, lucky 7 types Ross ran in the 50s. This one looks like a delicate snowflake by comparison, appropriate for a winter build I guess.

Had a bit more time and decided I'd looked at this thing assembled long enough, so I stripped it down to the bones. Here's a glimpse of the original factory paint. I think tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll get started on stripping the frame and fork.

I had a little free time earlier and decided to tackle some of the less fun aspects of bike work, so I pulled the crank. Whoever last greased this thing used enough grease for 3 or 4 bikes. I'm not complaining, the bearings appear perfect, just covered in grease. I've got a four quart sterilite...

Hmmm, if you cut out the rear bottom bracket and welded in a front fork and then extended the canti rails, had them meet with some slick custom drop outs, that would look pretty darn cool. Also, if you're using a spur on the fender, definitely go with the 72 spoke wheel set, heck throw some...

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to salvage the paint, this thing has seen at least two repaints. In some of the places where the paint has chipped it seems to have been at least partially sanded down, so likely strip and repaint. I'm veering towards black as I currently have no...

I'll be joining in the fun this winter with a twin top bar Ross canti frame I bought from @kirk in December. I'm nicknaming it Bob, because A: it's a Ross, Bob Ross. B: It's wearing at least two brushed on coats of house paint, no happy little trees, just blue and red. As it looked when I...

WBO 2017 Jan 1st to April 1st: ANYTHING GOES INCLUDING BUILDS ALREADY STARTED!---GO!---

I can't wait! I've got an early 60s Ross Deluxe, twin top tube, and since this build off is anything goes, I'm going to try and be as mundane as possible with it, lol. Seriously, just building a simple cruiser this time, something to roll to the park or 5 blocks to the river to take my boy...

What did you get for Christmas? Bike, bike parts or cool tools?

After almost a week's delay, mostly due to holiday shipping issues, Mrs. Link got her big Christmas present, an upgrade to her much beloved '63 Schwinn Racer.Nito Olympiade III bars, Nito stem, new red cork wraps, and red Duro slicks, along with a grease job and cleaning. My son and I put in...

I also got a shop cat, she's a neighborhood stray that has taken a shine to my workspace, apparently, I'm collecting cats as well as bikes now.

What did you get for Christmas? Bike, bike parts or cool tools?

It seems my first Christmas in San Angelo, TX (we moved Dec. 1st. Mrs. Link got stationed at Goodfellow AFB), has a "made in Dayton, Ohio" theme. A real, 50's Gerstner tool box.And a mid 50's Huffy Customliner(?) middle weight.

"Mus Malum" Ratting out an Electra Rat Rod. Now with a triple tree and clip ons!!!

I've been trying to thin the collection out a bit, over the weekend my wife graduated from O.T.S. in Montgomery AL. So, not only am I now the proud husband of a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, but I'm moving to San Angelo, TX, where she'll be doing her tch school. I decided that my 52...

"Mus Malum" Ratting out an Electra Rat Rod. Now with a triple tree and clip ons!!!

One thing I learned working w/newer steel is the importance of etching it well before hand. You can do this with vinegar, I usually reduce mine on the stove to up the acidity. You'll want to put the frame, fender, etc. in the sun and spray it down w/several generous coats, when it starts take on...
