marinate on this. then share with the members. the longest bicycle ride you did!

When I was young and foolish (now I'm just foolish)- MY BIG ADVENTURE- In July of 1970 I set out on my trusty 40 pound Schwinn with 30 pounds of equipment for a ride around the Delaware River and Bay. I rode over to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and hitched a ride across. Then rode from...

    Ooh, it makes me wonder!

Over 40 plus years ago when my brother and I were doing bike repairs at a bike rental shop on Nantucket Island, when he was servicing a front or rear hub, I would take away or add a bearing to his cup of bearings when he was not looking. Eventually he caught on and retribution was swift.

    Classic 3 Speeds

I cleaned up a 1960's 3-speed Moulton and gave it to my brother... EDIT: Strong magnets were attached to the rear rack and a thin steel plate was glued & riveted to the bottom of the picnic basket. Takes two hands to pull the basket off!

    ROBIN HOOD 1965

You need to put wood fenders on it from WOODY'S Fenders. He may be able to source the wood from Sherwood Forest (lol).

You know you have a problem with bicycles when...

When I needed to mount a headlight on a fender I used the base of a door stop. Removed the lever arm and voila!

Need information on V-RROOM! bicycle engines

Balloon is not fully inflated, leaving a nub on one end and nozzle on the other. Tie each end of the balloon to the outside of the fender stay, then roll the bike forward pushing the balloon under the stay until it pops to the other side. Balloon should be to the tire side of the wheel. Have fun...

Need information on V-RROOM! bicycle engines

Don't forget using long balloons with both ends tied to the fender stay. Makes a loud "blub, blub, blub" sound until they eventually pop. Just carry a pocket full of balloons. Years ago a buddy and I were on the Princeton Ride, which would attract over a thousand riders. As we "blub, blub, blub"...

    We Build On The Past

When I was in High School, on Saturdays I would go to the Library and look at turn of the Century (1900-1910) U.S. Patent Office Gazettes. Each month would consist of 4 or 5 large books about 5 inches thick. What surprised me was the amount of bicycle patents, from complete bikes to every part...

    1950s/60s European Bikes

Back in 1973 my brother and I worked on Nantucket Island as mechanics at a bike rental place. Occasionally we would see some unusual bikes, other than the 3-speed rental bikes that were everywhere. Here's 2 European bikes from the 1950's/60s. Check out the brazed on derailleurs.

    Folding bikes

Here's a funky little folder I got off of Ebay. Made by a Chinese company, FUERDI, that makes high end electric bikes. I ended up giving it to a Shriner Clown friend of mine. It scrunches rather than folds.

    Folding Bikes

Quite a few boating destinations will have bike rental shops. I worked the summers of 73/75 on Nantucket Island at a bike rental shop. Once we had 2 bikes come in for repair that had sailed all the way from Japan lashed to the deck. Needless to say they were quite corroded and weathered. The...

    Folding Bikes

Since 1973 I have had at least 20 folding bikes. Most were off the shelf but I did have 2 custom built Bike Fridays. These. however, were more of a disassembling bike for transport than actual folding bikes. There are a lot of considerations for folders. New/used, wheel size, steel/aluminum...
