    Pawel's build thread.

I don't quite understand what you mean about the springer - one is opposite the other? Maybe you could post some pics? I am using these forks on my bike and did not have too much problem. The one thing I did have to do was to figure out a way to switch the plates to the outside while still...

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

Yes, those gosh darned darns. I noticed the auto-censoring had changed that word when I was talking about my clay darns a while back. Now we also have cardboard darns and I suppose even Hoover Darn. Not to be confused with eternal darnation, mind you, which is spelled differently than the...

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

Thanks Galt! A little more progress. I spent some time thinking about what look I wanted. I thought about making it curvy like by straight bar Schwinn tank. I finally decided to go with the flat, boxy old school look. I have little more work to do before I glass it. I think I am going to...

    38 Rollfast - Strand Shark

LOL. In the modeling world, that's called weathering. :D Believe it or not, when I tried the chain, it fit perfectly right where I had mounted the wheel. The chain stays do get wider toward the rear but moving the wheel back, say 1/4", would only gain me a tiny amount of clearance. I think...

    38 Rollfast - Strand Shark

Looks like the chain will clear without any problem. It looks like the tire is touching the frame in the picture but there is actually about 1/16" of clearance. Not much but I just took it for a spin and it does not rub. I am pretty stoked with the way this bike rides! It is going to be a...

    38 Rollfast - Strand Shark

Ooooh. Good tip! I'll try the chain to see how it looks. Thanks!

    38 Rollfast - Strand Shark

Grab that thing Travis! Did a quick mockup today to make sure everything is fitting. The tires are REAL close in the rear but they still fit (there is actually a little more clearance on the other side). I'll have to make sure that wheel stays nice and true. :D The bars are from...

    38 Rollfast - Strand Shark

Thanks! That's an awesome avatar, BTW. Hehehe. I also want to give a BIG thanks to Hugo and his very cool article, How To Lace a Wheel. I hadn't ever done it. Then a couple of months ago, my dad needed to rebuild some wheels for one of his bikes. We ran across Hugo's article, read through...

    38 Rollfast - Strand Shark

Finally got the paint and got the wheels painted. Here they are laced up with tires mounted. Close-up showing the brass nipples.

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

A little more progress. Magnets glued on with CA. These will just hold the tank halves together on the bike while I am shaping them.

    The Lightning Flyer 12/11

Re: The Lightning Flyer FIRST RIDE 9/18 I'm diggin' the creme/tan. Looks more retro. And that font is perfect! (IMO) Rusty.

    The Lightning Flyer 12/11

Re: The Lightning Flyer UPDATE 9/5 Here you go stretch. I'm diggin' the way this bike came out. Looks great with the cream colored tires! Rusty.

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

Hey UncleKudzu, What I am working on now is the plugs from which the molds will be made. I got the sheet wax from Freeman Supply. It comes in various thicknesses. I use the Thermo-Stable stuff so it won't melt while sitting in my garage. It is also nice for creating fine details. I used it...

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

Thanks for the kind words guys. I thought I had foam but then I realized that the stuff I had, had gotten hard in the can. So earlier today, I ordered some more from Fiberglass Supply (.com). I have to say that those guys are just awesome. He said it would go out tomorrow. Then I asked if...

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

Some fine tuning. Also need to make sure there will be enough room for the headbadge. And that's it for the inner plates! Next thing to do will be to pour some AB foam on them so I can shape the tank halves. That's all I have for now. More to come next weekend.

    Building a Fiberglass Tank

Sweet! The next morning I popped the halves loose and cleaned up the frame. I used a jigsaw to saw off the outer edge to get rid of the clay. Here is the little alignement thingie. Next I clamped the two halves together and sanded them to the same shape on my beltsander.
