Tires? Who do we like to replace OEM tires?

I run Kenda 838's on all four of my bikes ( cruisers and MTB's). I am 205lbs and I run them at 55lbs. Because of their rounded profile, on the street only the center 3/4" contacts the pavement which makes them fast and smooth. When on softer ground, the whole 1.95"+ helps you not sink in very...

"...buy a sticker to cover an aluminum plate and rivet the assembly on." "...buy a sticker to cover an aluminum plate and rivet the assembly on." Wow, that's a really good idea. I just might do that on my bike. I love this forum. Some really creative and smart people here...like you...

Huffy seat post diameter? (late 60's, early 70's)

I did that and I bent the 13/16" post. I went and bought a 18" piece of 7/8" solid 6061 aluminum rod. Then I used a sharp file to reduce the O.D. of the 7/8 6061. I checked for fit as I filed. 7/8" is just a tiny bit to big, and the file worked in about 20 min. I am 200lbs. and been riding for...

    The B I G cog.

I have a Mega range on my MTB. Don't like it much. Super low granny gear is good when the hill is steep. But the jump from 1st to second is so big, I shy away from using the 34T ring at all.

    Protect a rusty bike

I heard you can use boiled linseed oil to keep rusty frames from rusting further. Is this true? How do you do it? The biggest question... does it last? And any other ideas to retard rust, that is cheap to do. Thanks in advance

    PPE for bike building

Wear all the usual stuff, but gloves. For me, gloves just get it the way. I have started to wear knee pads, mostly to keep from grinding more holes in my jeans. Knee pads do help when kneeling on a tiny rock on the concrete.

    Seat post question.

Sorry I did see you wanted a lay back post. Mine is straight. I wound not know how to bend an aluminum rod. A 7/8 Aluminum rod is super stiff. You could always fit it, figure out where you want the finished top of post, cut the proper angle in the rod and have it TIG welded. Maybe add a...

    Island Queen

If you want to rebuild the Coaster Brake, Buy a Park tool #DCW-4 and a 17mm combo wrench. The 13/15 mm cone wrench fits most hubs for about $5 at your LBS. the 17mm fits most lock nuts. The rebuild is pretty easy. Look to YouTube for RJ The Bike Guy or Bikeman4u. The rebuild looks complicated...

    Seat post question.

I am the originator of the post. What I ended up doing was to buy a piece of new 6061 7/8 x 18" aluminum solid rod from my local recycle place. it was $13 and change. To reduce the diameter, I used a file and rotated the rod in my hand. To save time, I only filed the part that would be inside...

    Seat post question.

So...I had the wrong seatpost in my 1974 Huffy bike. The seat tube appears to be ALMOST 7/8". I have tried some different 7/8 posts, and all bind up 1-2" in. I already cleaned the inside of the seat tube, absolutely nothing in there. The inside of the tube is greased well. too. Well, I bought...

Coaster brakes are actually pretty simple in design. Lots of rebuild videos on YouTube. You can do it. Looking at the condition of the bottom bracket bearings, you really should. I would wish you luck, but you really don't need it. BTW, nice looking bike.
