RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Thanks a lot! It isn't what I originally visioned for the build off but I am very happy with the way it turned out. It was my first time building a bike so I learned a lot that will help me for next years build off.... so let the brainstorming for the next bike begin! Final pictures of the...

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Well I still have to tighten the leather grips onto the handle bars but I got excited and started snapping pictures anyway. Tomorrow I will take the official shots but here is the bike basically finished! I'll start with the bike next to the original sketches and tank mock ups as I prepared...

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Well the fabricating should be done. I have the tank on using pins and very strong magnets so I successfully mounted it with no visible fasteners. Tonight I will be assembling the bike and taking it for its maiden voyage. Tomorrow I will be photographing the bike and submitting it into the...

So if I'm going with this new name I guess the handle grips should go along with the theme... tassels are required right??? It's always good to have a Harley friend or two!

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Well it seems like I'm in good shape now with a new plan. I don't want to rush the paint or staining on the wood so for time purposes I will leave the frame bare metal and leave the plywood unstained for the competition. Because it's not going to match my original vision I think a new name for...

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Decided to do a paint fill on the bottom of the seat. Just because. Most of my night was spent trying to clean up the frame which had more rust than I expected. I have a whole new respect for all the naked bikes out there... this takes work! What are the rules about completing a bike but...

The Silver Straight Bar Special - FINISHED!! PICTURES AND VIDEO!!

This looks great! Do you mind me asking what you sanded and polished the fork with? I'm trying to get a similar look on my fork. Was it some sort of rubbing compound then the Brasso?

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with it for never doing anything like it before. My advice to anyone doing it the first time is just keep stretching it! The tighter I pulled it the better the shape of the formed steel pan showed up. That shape is why I switched to this seat in the first place!

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Thanks a lot! Every day I get closer to the build deadline I flip flop on being confident I'll finish in time... My deadline is sooner than the rest because I'll be out of town on the actual due date so I need my pictures submitted no later than next Wednesday! I'll have some updates later...

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

A good friend of mine was able to get some new leather for me to reupholster the old seat that came on the bike when I got it. The seat looks original to the bike but might not be because white was probably rare for a mens bike back then. Either way, I'm really glad I spent the extra time to...

    Truss rod dimensions?

Does anyone have dimensions (or know where I can find them) of Schwinn 26" truss rods? I'm thinking of making some from scratch but don't have a set to use as a template. Thanks!

    BONINE Tanks

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it so far, have to get the other half milled out then decide if I want to stain it or leave it light.

    BONINE Tanks

Well my tank is only half complete but I want to join in the fun...

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

OK, so with the exception of a little sanding and staining the wood I have the pedals and one half of the tank done! Its going to be a marathon finish but I think I'll get it done. I hope! The pedals were made to go in the same direction as the ply on the tank. The small piece on the...

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Just before the finishing pass: After the finishing pass: And some different angles: It's a tight fit, I'll have to remove a little additional material for the seat tube which I anticipated but so far it looks like my measure 300 times cut once helped out!

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Thanks, I'll probably give it a try and see how it looks. If I would have thought of it sooner maybe I would have tried to pick up a spaceliner fork or something. In the meantime, I'm in full out woodshop mode trying to get the pedals done and trying not to get distracted by watching the...

That's still the CG tank. Flipping it on the mill today so hopefully I'll have half a tank by tonight.

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

So I'm trying to decide the final look of the bike. I decided on black for sure, most likely gloss. But I think /I'm going to try to go with bare metal on the fork and polish it. Has anyone done this? Does it come anywhere close to polished aluminum? Here are two photoshopped images showing...
