RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

As of now, it will be difficult for me to mill out more than just the one for this bike, but the thought has definitely crossed my mind to sell these. I've never made a mold but i'd love to try it out... are you more interested in something like that or another milled wood version?

Those renderings you do look like 3D software, you must have a great eye for drawing in perspective... great job on that! Yeah, my plan is CNC. I would love to use a 3D printer but not for this build. If I'm lucky some time in the future I might be able to finagle use of a 3D printer but...

Thanks, I'm a die hard Mopar guy and considered doing a Super Bee theme but decided it would have made more sense if the bike was originally a Hornet.... maybe a future build!

Alright well here's the first good look at the tank design I'm working on. I keep fine tuning it and can't get myself to call it complete, but this is the concept. Below is a screen grab of how it looks in 3D, as well as a full scale foam-core mock up to be sure it fits as planned in the...

    Creative number plates!

This front placard is outstanding! What did you use to light this headlight up? I am using one of these spotlights for my build off bike and trying to figure out the best way to light mine up. I wouldn't mind seeing how you mounted it either if you don't mind giving away your trade secrets!

Haha yeah I guess I'm going from one cad platform to the next! It looked like The Renaissance Man was using some sort of cad to get a visual on some of the parts like the seat bracket on his current build. I'm not sure I'd call what I'm doing talent though until we see how the tank turns out!

Well it's not much of a teaser but I started the most important part of my build last night. Traced the tank section of the frame then plotted a graph around it. I will be building the frame in cad so this allowed me to get the curve and other dimensions pretty much spot on. It did take a few...

Well I thought it was a tight enough fit to hold the vinegar after wedging the duct tape under the rivets but I looked at the seat before I left for work today and the vinegar drained and soaked the into the seat. I think trial two will leave the duct tape and leave vinegar soaked cotton balls...

More great advice, thanks! And I like the way you think... I once made an entire hamburglar costume (hat, mask, and all) using 90% duct tape. Proof you really can do anything with it!

Thanks! Did you just tape off the seat so the wire only messed with the rivets? I don't want to scuff up the vinyl since it's in great shape.

Thanks Glen, and Rattled looks great! I was hoping I was going to be the first guy that had the rotating light so it's just a bullet shape when not in use... I guess it's true when they say "everything has been done before."

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

Well time management has never been my strength so I haven't been tinkering as much as I'd like but I did manage to buy a new stem that was supposedly the right size (it's extremely tight) so I will have to do some convincing to get it as low as I want. I should know in a few hours if I won a...

One of my other thoughts was to strip the paint and just clear coat the frame... I assume that would be sort of a gloss grey... Have you guys seen anyone do that? If so how did it look?

RE-TIRED STRIPPER - Formerly Spit Ply-er DONE (basically)

That's a cool idea but I'm pretty sure it's been repainted at least once already. The paint has wrinkles in some areas... Did the 50s bikes come with flaws like that?

Thanks guys... The blue seems popular so looks like it's official!

I kind of wondered about that, but I guess without knowing the tricks of the trade I was thinking of playing it safe. I did like the way the stem looked in there so I might just do that. Thanks!

So here is the start and there are already a couple issues I wasn't expecting. I bought the red tires and rims new a while back planning for this bike but now that I tried to put them on I see that the axle for the front wheel is larger than what the fork will accept. It's just balanced on...

First time building a bike and first time posting photos on here so bear with me if it isn't very successful!!! I have a 1956 Schwinn Spitfire that's been sitting in my garage for way too long. I bought it to build but haven't got that round tuit until now. Hope I can keep up with you...
