No spring on this one though.. Had to remove it to get it lower and with rules on modifying the frame I couldn't relocate the top mount. Still fun though. VicXsaN - I couldn't wait to swap the fork truss, thingy, dealy.... Looks better to me AND it was easier to mount! Thanks for the idea...

Thanks for the comments and ideas folks! Did a little more work on the project. Cut the side plates out of some sheet metal... Made a seat post spacer to use the curved old handlebar for a setback and cleaned up the seat to get rid of the 'Huffy' logo... Pulled the large ring gear off...

Hmm.. hadn't thought of it that way. Can you point me to any pics?? It's just an old OCC sissy bar that I'm using so I think I should be able to flip it. Thanks! -Stephen

    GIVE 'ER!!!!!!!!!!!!! 130.7MPH

Wow... why do I have NO desire to try that?? I remember the video of the frame breaking. It was on TV at one point... some experimental frame I believe. Think I'll just try to make them LOOK fast. No testing required. -Stephen

    Protowrxs Intro

Yeah.. it wasn't much fun to try to ride. But then again *I* wasn't going to be the one riding it, the Police Chief was.. :-) It's history anyhow.. just one of those "what if I did that with this?" situations. Thanks for the welcome all! -Stephen

    Protowrxs Intro

Just figured I would say "hi" to all and provide a little intro. Nothing special, just a computer professional that has always liked cars, motorcycles, robotics, electronics, home automation, and, oh yeah, BICYCLES. I learned to wrench on bikes as a youngster which then moved to...

I plan on running some side plates out of 22ga steel to cover the messy middle and put a number on. This is a cardboard mock up of the plate to get the layout. Here is a front view that shows the funky idea of a fork add on. Not sure if this will make it onto the bike but it needs something up...

I dropped on some whitewalls and a fork that actually fits (the bike uses a 1 1/8" steerer, the orange fork was a 1"). Still debating on a seat style as well. I put about five different ones I had on and this seems the best.

Pulling the shock off and replacing the front shock forks and bars looks like this. It is a basic feel for how I want the bike to look. Similar to an old vintage race motorcycle.

Finished Thread is Here A little different approach and just for fun on this one. I had planned on using the rear end off this old mountain bike for a soft tail chopper but after seeing this build off thought I'd do something different. So what can you do with a junk mountain bike in a Rat...

    WHEN I WAS A KID...

6 years old... about 1965. I won this in the local Royal Crown (RC) Cola give away. We never did find out who actually entered my name since nobody ever owned up to it. I remember having to stand up on a picnic bench just to get on the thing to ride it. For some stupid reason I threw it away in...

    A few oldies and others...

Thanks for the comments and info. I'll have to check the serial on the Schwinn when I pick it up Sunday then and see what it is. We plan on having a little family road trip Sunday on the back highways of Okie land to get there. In the mean time I picked up (rescued?) this apparent July 1961...

    A few oldies and others...

Like I need another hobby or project but I'm somewhat fascinated by this site and have lurked a while. Rat Rod Bikes is an interesting take on fun with bicycles and building. I've built bike choppers and have tried trials and still have a chopper to finish, but the rat idea looks like fun. In...
