Oxalic acid is a common wood cleaner, but is usually sold as a liquid and already reduced to less than 10% concentration, better (cheaper) to buy it as crystals, I found mine in the trades section of the hardware store labelled as a rust stain remover. It dissolves rust on chrome beautifully...

FYI, the 2 speed system is generally known as "Retro Direct". Google "retro direct bike" and you will find links to many builds... most of us would have all the needed parts in our scrapheaps. Personally I would swap the chain to the opposite rear sprockets so that you take off pedaling normally...

Thanks for the compliments, I love truefire, and I'll keep practicing till I get it right! It is not adjustable and is only there to minimize the chances of the chain jumping off the front sprocket when it's on the big cog on the back. It would probably be fine without it 99% of the time, but...

The finished flip bike... Got Rake? The cheapy chineese grips are a nice match for the blue truefire style paintjob. Should be plenty of support for the seatpost. My welding can only get better :oops: Interesting pics can be taken of flips :D

If money is in short supply, don't buy fresh chrome until you have soaked the parts you already have in oxalic acid for a few hours...... it's amazing what it can rescue, especially vintage parts as they were chromed much better than the stuff you get new now. If you want to try the oxalic...
