Having fun with my JC Higgins

I've been looking high and low for a decent seat from day one. I missed at least one choice seat on ebay early on because I didn't realize the rarity. Here is my best effort so far and my obligatory "sorry for the crappy pic".

    Checkin In From The Bay

Jboss, Welcome aboard. I'm new too. I love your bikes. Would love to see more pics when you make some changes. That's one thing I've found here, is that when you modify and post it, the stoke flows. I dig your MP too. I kinda wish I needed it  .

Thanks Man, I don't like the seat. I like the look of the springs and it is pretty comfy and squeaky. Haven't found a better one yet. I bought a nice schwinn seat that needs re-covering but I'm still studying.

Having fun with my JC Higgins

Thanks Guys, I liked it without the fenders too, especially as my daily rider. When I recently got a Schwinn Speedster to ride daily I started just looking at the Flightliner. So I thought It'd be a better looker with whitewalls and fenders.

    where'd you username come from?

Some Whamo frisbees are stamped on the bottom; Play catch - Make up games - Tilted flip curves - Flat flip flies straight.

Giving the fenders a try. I went to the correct size 26X1.75 whitewalls and correct-looking pedals. Gonna shorten chain soon to get tire centered in fender. Couldn't wait to show pic. Can someone tell me or show me the correct (or close) rear fender reflector? Thanks, Mick

    The New iPad

The picture quality is remarkable. I would pick the new one given a choice. Already having the 2, it's not worth an upgrade. It's basicly the same.

That's picker's retail. "I got these three bikes for $1500 and I'm gonna double that".

I did not. I excel at not buying anything. I made an offer on a set of golf clubs, but no.

Ha, I'll admit I really want another antique bike right now and I wouldn't mind another camera or frisbee but that's about it. I have owned a few truckloads of antiques before but I'm done. I could list my current antiques inside a matchbook, on the top flap.

    Canton Texas Trade Days

Uncle, I did chat with ind-chuckz a couple weeks ago and he was kind enough to offer me some additional parts that he didn't list on one of his frames. It was a HD but it was not an electro-forged frame like I wanted. Rat-Rod, I was actually thinking on the way over there that I would have to...

Here is a link to my photobucket from my trip to Canton today. http://s961.photobucket.com/albums/ae91 ... de%20Days/ Here is the one that I kinda felt like it got away. I thought about it all the way home 150 miles.

Sturmy Archer 2nd gear free spinning

I replaced the spindle indicator. Found a new one on Amazon for $2 and change from Niagara Cycle, Inc. Man, It shifts like a dream now. Found this great SA manual pdf here; http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/%7Ehadland/aw.pdf That's how I knew which indicator to get. (pdf's are awesome on iPad...

    Rat Rod Bikes Stickers ?

I dig the wings for my toolbox. If my truck had a single sticker I'd consider wings for it too. I want the twin dot coms for the forks of my mtn bike. Mick

1959 Flightliner w CWC springer fork. My 1st Vintage find!

Awesome! Can hardly wait to see the new seat. Are you planning to leave it bare metal or what? I really dig the forks as is! I would definately be looking for the rest of the parts but not worrying about it because they're really sweet now. Mick

    Welder advice

The "stacked dimes" will be from welding about 1/8" at a time. Pull trigger, get a little flow, stop. Don't move, don't raise your hood. Just remain still for a good second and weld again. Repeat! In many cases this will be stronger than a steady even bead. Especially with thin metal. Not only...

Nice bike Gary. I better keep mine. Yea, I figured the black seat and black grips are standard. It's just my first Schwinn in 30 years and I was thinking of S's & glitter. Mick

    Straighten a bent fender stay?

Consider a C-Clamp too. It may be stronger than the vise grips and more versatile than the bench vise. When I had a brand new '93 Nissan pickup, the clutch pedal was a little over bent. It did not match the brake pedal. I used a heavy C-Clamp and 2 pieces of 1/2 X 2 flat bar and corrected it...
