i did the same when i tried making bikes for my family. found a doable design on the 'net and played with sizes as i needed smallest and longest of them. the larger one is for a brother who's 6'5'. at 5'11" i can barely ride it.

if you have some way of braking it (since it won't have coaster brakes), you can use the rear mountain bike wheel and still have it be a single speed. if you don't want to do the derailleur, chain, etc. changes, just take the cluster off and put on a single freewhel cog.

i like a good stretch no flexing? it dosen't need a vertical or diagonal tube? like from the seat strait down in front of the rear wheel, or diagonal to the bb?

i do like 'em shiny, but mostly i like them to work. i tend to piece bikes together, making them more rideable as i go. then once they ride good i don't feel like taking them apart again just to paint them. i will eventually (i think), i just have a hard time making myself do it.

now that's something. truthfully, i'm not as much into the older bikes (i go back about as far as muscle bikes), so i'd see someoe mention a radio bike, but i didn't think an actual bike with a radio in it. i was just thinking it was just a name, like a radio flyer wagon or something.

a good thing with derailleurs though, it's pretty cheap to do a conversion (though brakes can be an issue). nearly any old mountain bike will have the same size rims and most all you need to do it. just swap it out.

it'd probaly be worth more if the pope had blessed more than just the back tire.

both old schwinns. the one in front i was told was a '53. i don't know if it is or not. wasn't bothered with finding out. i made what i wanted and like it better. the fact that it bothers you? well, thats just gravy :P

i've been experimenting with couple, but they're the longtail style and i started with mountain bikes. interesing though. i want to try a front loader but i need a little more know how and a firm idea first.

i just ordered from motorcycle superstore last week. came pretty fast. i'd also check chopperus. seems like they had something similar and since they're doing a clear out you might get lucky.

my faux fixie, i guess it's diamond-y murray street machine i missed a chance to buy a couple more of these. worth i for the rear wheel if you come across one cheap, or nice as a small (24") kinda ready made rat roddy type bike.
