Pics from Aug 4 Corn Festival Parade+Retirement Home Visit

Sunday morning, still cool and gray. Everything in the yard is dewy, and after spending all of yesterday hiding in the bushes Buddy the cat is glad to have his little domain all to himself again. He hops up on the strange tables, and gives all of the chairs a good sniff. Content that nothing in...

They said, "No, You can't do that!" No one has ever done it before, and besides, you'll put yer eye out...

    Rattle can or Powdercoat?

@Jerrykr; That has been my experience with Duplicolor as well. I have a '56 Starlet that I gave a rattle can paint job back in 1980. I used Krylon from the old Standard Brands paint stores. It still looks good. The stuff I've tried to paint in the last few years never comes out well. Even when...

    Rattle can or Powdercoat?

It's pretty hard to screw up satin black. (although I'm sure I could manage) But a rattle can paint job won't survive a kid. Figure too, you'll spend upwards of fifty or sixty bucks by the time you buy stripper, primer, paint, sandpaper, steel wool, etc. You can probably get your frame and forks...

internal geared hub/ drum brake question

I have the Shimano 8-speed w/ coaster brake on my rider. I use the simple twist grip shifter. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I'm kind of an old guy, but still, with this hub it takes a pretty formidable hill to get me out of the saddle. Downhill, it's as fast as I need to go. Someone...

I want to see someone ride it.

It reminds me of those impossible bikes that they set out at Tour De Fat. JWM

Re: *UPDATE* So Cal riders- Aug 4 Parade ride La Habra, CA Have no fear! We'll get y'all jammed into shirts, pointed in the right direction, and shoved out on the street somehow or other. Al suggested decorating the bikes with a red-white-blue All American theme. Parade tradition and all. Not a...

Re: *UPDATE* So Cal riders- Aug 4 Parade ride La Habra, CA I have it on good authority that Facebook is the devil, so before I signed up I paid some gypsy curandera to cast spells and hexes against evil so I'd be protected on line. Best six hundred bucks I ever spent. Anyway- We'll have...

A question of pressure- things we overlook

When I was building this bike I ordered most of the stuff through Niagra Cycle, including the Avenir thornproof tubes, and Cheng Shin tires. The more expensive tubes were well worth it. They're flattened radially so they slide right in without scrunching up and binding. I had Cheng Shins on...

Re: So Cal riders- Aug 4 Parade ride, BBQ, More- La Habra, CA Hi folks- Here's the latest information- I have the T-shirts. I got 30 in M,L, and XL. Of course, nothing goes without a hitch. I ordered 15L, 10M, and 5XL. I got 5 Medium, and 10 XL. Not to worry- I tried on the XL; it wasn't...

Whittier Greenway Trail ride N Photo Opp!

Dude, that's my neighborhood. Wish I would have known you guys would be down here. Great photos. Here's a bit of trivia- the ice cream factory was where they used to make Cool-A-Coo. It was an ice cream sandwich on oatmeal cookies. JWM

If you had $100,000 what would you drive?

Thanks, Baron Von Zach: I will confess a morbid, if minor fascination with this pic. I'm not sure that the explanation makes it any less creepy. *update* Look at the wiki entry- Just as I suspected, the guy was into cross dressing, sado masochism, humiliation... Sort of explains the girly-bike...

July 14 So Cal Rat Rod Ride

We had a light turnout for this months ride. Welcome Troy. Weather was overcast, but perfectly not too hot, or cold, or windy, and we didn't have a tornado, or an earthquake either. It was a slow, mellow cruise with good people, cool bikes, and fat sandwiches at Big Belly Deli. Life is good, eh...
