    rat rod material

Picked this up on Friday. I believe it is a JC Higgins although it has Western Flyer grips on it. I'm thinking new tires and chain, repack or replace bearings throughout an d call it a finished ratrod. Is something missing from these pedals?

    I messed up

I had a tough time trying to describe what happened when I took the screw out. It would be equally tough to describe how I got it back together. I will say that I used a guitar string as a "tool". I kept "working" the right side , or rear, shifter and now it seems to function. I can now put a...

    diamondback

Although I had recently decided that I was only going to buy three speed and ten speed bikes , I bought a Diamondback yesterday. It was CHEAP. It is my first bike with the "gauge" style gear indicator. I thought it was neat.

    I messed up

I posted a few days ago about a Schwinn Le Tour bike I found. I did a little cleaning on it and thought it was looking good.It has Shimano RSX shifters/brake levers on it , which I have not seen before. The brake lever pivots to the side to downshift and a smaller lever that is attached to the...

    Schwinn le tour

Here's a Schwinn I paid $9 for. Notice the backwards forks. I wonder if the previous owner would have ridden it more if the forks had been right. The protective plastic has not been pulled off of the headbadge. It has presta valves on the tubes. I don't think I have an adapter to air up the...

don't overlook your local recycler/ scrap yard

There are actually 3 recyclers within about 5 miles of the one I bought the Murray from. All 3 just opened in the last few months. Although I have not been to the other 2 , I have heard that they will not sell anything once it enters the gate.I had a good chat with the owner/operator of the 1 I...

don't overlook your local recycler/ scrap yard

A new scrapyard opened recently near my house. I pass it every day going to and from work.I stopped in yesterday. I asked if they had any bicycles and was escorted to the bicycle and lawn mower area. There were several little kids bikes and this one ten speed. I know it's not much but at .30...

North Carolina RatRodBikers... CHECK IN! (map added 10/8/12)

Re: North Carolina RatRodBikers... CHECK IN! I installed a Plymouth Volare torsion bar front suspension. It's a pretty common swap in 53-56 Ford trucks. Actually the Caddy is not all that heavy. They weight a little more that a small-block Chevy , but less than a big-block Chevy.I have not...

North Carolina RatRodBikers... CHECK IN! (map added 10/8/12)

Re: North Carolina RatRodBikers... CHECK IN! Here's my ratrod bike hauler. It's time for a new coat of flat red paint. I can haul all the bikes that will fit in and on the bed with the 472" Caddy engine.

    yesterdays flea market find

I got this ladies Sears 5-speed at the flea market , cheap. I rubbed on it a few places and I believe it will clean up nice. The only damage is the broken shift lever , that someone has relocated from the stem to the handlebars. I will move it back where it belongs. It rides good. :D
