My first vintage bike...1959 Schwinn Corvette

It warms my heart that some here are recommending restoration. And I agree, the bike is cool enough to warrant restoration. My advice? Craigslist a girls Hollywood and pirate some parts.

Schwinn bikes ( post pics here )

I like riding this around on weekends, it's a conversation starter, and it's 10 MPH cruising speed is relaxing. It was a 1964 Typhoon originally. Everybody asks me if it's "really" old or just a reproduction.

    1977 Peugeot...Cheap.

Ya, I'm going with a restoration, but with an original color repaint and decal set. Just like when it was new, minus the reflectors and the broken front derailleur, but I've got another French one in the parts drawer. I also might dump the gigantic chrome dork disc. :cool2:

    Road bike guys - Peugeot

What he said^^^. I own 2 Peugeots and am curious what it might be. If these stickers are on it, it's a really nice one.

    1977 Peugeot...Cheap.

Actually, I was debating whether to keep it original or build it more to my liking. 7 speed Suntour drivetrain, New burgundy paint, Ideale saddle, Newbaums bar wrap, new decal set, hammered fenders and more upright bars- it would be less work to restore it, actually, but I'm thinking it's a...

    1977 Peugeot...Cheap.

Started the teardown today- the Frenchiness is a pain in the ass, but can't wait to ride it. I figure about $200 to make it a rider. :)

    1977 Peugeot...Cheap.

Don't laugh too hard. But it's mechanical components are amazingly sound, not much wear on the chainrings and the bottom bracket is smooth. This bike was right under the pro racer in Peugeot's 1977 bike lineup. (Hard to believe, eh?);) The remains of a Reynolds 531 tubing sticker: After...

    The Barber and The Spaceliner

Great story! Adjust that seat and he could ride it.:)

Check out the newest members of my family!

My suggestion would be to use the derailleur and whatever other parts from the blue one to fix the yellow one. The Volkscycle needs new tires, brake pads, a set of brake cables and shifter cables, bearing overhaul, a new chain and some nice, period correct black cotton Tressostar bar wrap. If...

    Field trip... Pic heavy...

What is this? I'm likiin' it! Early to mid '60's? Aluminum fenders? Cottered crank? European?

    Pelaton Punisher-30's Shelby Flyer

Nice! An interesting fusion of two very different types of bicycles. I'm too old now to outrace much of anybody, but back in the day...

    Schwinn wheels what's the deal?

My bike has it's original S7 wheels. I did end up shelling out $40 at a bike shop for 2 new blackwall tires, but they look the part. When I mounted them, they were really tight on the rims- had to air them to 55PSI to "seat the beads". :D There are 3 or 4 brands of them in 26"- all Chinese made...

Parts interchangeability between the older bikes?

Nice info. Thanks, man! I'm printing and saving that one!

Parts interchangeability between the older bikes?

If I ever do find a nice old Colson or Elgin or Columbia or Higgins or Western Flyer or any old late '30's to mid-50's fat tire frame, can I run any fork from any of these old rides? A Schwinn springer? Are cranks interchangeable? How about just buying a later model beach cruiser from Craigslist...

Are your bikes ever really "done"? (some pictures)

Mine has gone through several versions and I find myself thinking of more. It'll never end. Well, until you get a better starting point I guess. ;) As found- $80 cash: Where should I go with this?: This is better: Found some fenders: And now, about $200 later:
