I like your attitude with this.

I plan to revisit the dip. Maybe for another build off.

Thank you! I like this paint. I suppose I should clear coat it. Need to order a rim and spokes.

I stripped the paint today. I have fantastic results with citrastrip. Plan B on the paint job. Went with more of a tie dye or maybe oil slick look. I am much happier with this.

    Got this back together.

Very strange. Must be a better answer. That hub is curiously clean. Looks rebuilt, but the spokes are too crusty.

    Fork/headset issue

I think yes. Does it fit?

Not going well. The fenders turned out OK. They are heavily pitted and I wasn’t planning on using them in this build. Everything else looks terrible. The problem is the paint turns into a film on the water and will not wrap around the tight radius of the tubes. I tried floating...

I did some more experimenting today. I am going to wait until I see what actually worked before I do a detailed write up. High level, I realized the wrinkles and goobers can be wet sanded off and what remains actually looks pretty decent. I am trying to eliminate as many wrinkles and...

    Where Is The Whimsy?!

I’ve only been into this hobby for a few years. All I can say is, this place is magically drama free. I ditched Facebook years ago. People tell me I should sell my bikes on FB marketplace. Not worth it. All the cool people are on RRB and Craigslist. I do have instagram, but am...

Water was straight out of the hose. Probably 75f or 24c. Plan to try warm water with borax tomorrow.

Borax is worth a shot. I’m reading it changes the surface tension to help acrylic paints float. Metalcast isn’t acrylic, but I think it’s worth a shot.

The good looking spots seem to be from the center of the tub. Which is the last paint I put down. I think the paint is drying too fast on the surface of the water causing the wrinkles. I wonder if there is something I can add to the water to slow down the paint from drying.

It is sort of working. Some spots look great, but other spots it wrinkled up and gets globby. It might be the size of my tub is too big for the small parts. I invested in all this paint so I am going to keep trying. The good parts look great!

No. It looked like that was for plastic. The instructions on the metalcast said not to use any sort of primer and not to sand the chrome. Apply directly to chrome. I think I either used too much paint or didn’t move quick enough. I was also attempting to spray all the paint into the...

I will. I’m just running out of test pieces! Maybe I will strip the paint off tonight and try again tomorrow.

@Sting Ray Lover tipped me off that Napa can order metalcast and they got it with hours!! That’s the good news. I have dipped two handlebars and this isn’t going well. It has potential, but my technique must be off. Need a good tutorial.
