TRADITIONAL Quasi-Motobike : Rack em' up!

Day 7 / 8 So, the weather turned around yesterday after lunch. I spent some time on my next mod, the rear rack. Y'all know how much I like to add wood to my builds, so I cut some slats from a piece of aged cedar that was used for the wainscoting inside the BACK40 when I built it. Drilled...

Thanks! We'll keep looking as to the born on date, etc. For sure it's right around that 1920 marker for time frame. I will post on the CABE as well at some point to see what others have for input. SKPC , etc. :wink1:

    TRADITIONAL Raleigh-Up

Awesome video update! Your work space is cool, the jazz, your presentation: bravo! That bike has so many great and unique features. I like the high flange hubs for a front wheel build, figure out the horn switch issue and keep it, agreed on the hubs "if it ain't broke"... This is going to...

    UNLIMITED 2-2-1

If you have a local thrift store, check out the purses for good soft leather seat material. That has been my go-to for many builds. Also, yoga mats with their high density make great pads! And there are plenty of 'lightly used' ones of those at thrifts also!

The wheels work well with the frame and fork. Graduate level work here. (graduation pun intended)

Mini bike seat, or maybe a bmx loaf saddle would look cool.

TRADITIONAL Quasi-Motobike : Rack em' up!

Day 7 Rainy day here again. Seems like every other one has been either sunny and pleasant or rain and wind. I'll be inside the BACK40 working on an idea I've wanted to check out. Ordered some grips from @ifitsfreeitsforme , Thompson Classic components, and will RaT-ina those whence they...

I like the curve and look of the third chainguard. And that raised panel on the front of it would be a great nameplate! Painted a highlight color maybe. You are moving right along sir!

Great work arounds on the frame mods WC! And your wife is picking up what you're laying down. That's always a smile moment for me. :wink1: Last night we were sitting on the deck and she said, "How old is that bike you are working on?" I told her we were still figuring it out, but that it...

    TRADITIONAL (___________)

Glad to see you back in it! Those Trek cruisers were pretty cool, came in all sorts of '50s colors and a few different configurations. We sold a bunch from 2004 - 2009 at the shop I managed. The bi-weekly car show right in front of the store on main street drew a lot of attention to the...

"but I wasn't playing nicely" 😆 Looks like you had a busy night in 'demo'. Cartoons, eh? I've always been a big cartoon nut.

Thanks guys! The pedals were new territory for me. I want to retain and match the original patina and age as closely as I can

@Wildcat , thanks for the leg work! Did the photo you saw have my head badge, Hawthorne De Luxe, on it? Many I have found were the Flyer model.

Ditto KF on all of the above ^^. Of course, the knobbiest, gnarliest, nastiest tires you can fit in are de rigor for every true klunker build! That early motobike will have room as it came with 28" wheel/tire combo originally (we both have very similar frames). And I fit 700c wheels with 42mm...

    TRADITIONAL 🅵🅾🅾🅻🅸🅶🅰🅽 - 1930s Elgin Oriole

Perhaps @GuitarlCarl 's stay crimper method would work to give you just a smidge more room for 35 psi in the rear tire. I like how it's packed up inside like it is. It has a great stance, and with that seat tube bent like it is, it appears that it was designed to fit a fatty in there! And as...
