Thanks for the info. That's why we're trying to figure out what model it is, because we don't know what parts may be missing. But sounds like we don't have to worry about it now and can just proceed with the tinkering.

Added two more pictures. Also, in case it's not evident from the pics, the bike was originally red, which someone at some point painted over with green, and then painted on the "49" and "B/Gasser" over the green.

Picked up this old bike this summer and all we know about it is it's a J.C. Higgins. Started tinkering with it this weekend, planning to motorize it, but after some internet browsing realized it might be worth something and maybe we shouldn't tinker with it too much. Would appreciate if anyone...
