    VINTAGE MOUNTAIN BIKES

Gave it a quick clean, swapped out the saddle and pedals and took it for a ride. Fits great, shifts and brakes good… a few adjustments needed. The suspension fork was a different matter… quite “clunky” in its operation while going off curbs! Inspection showed one of the top seal/sleave units...

    VINTAGE MOUNTAIN BIKES

Picked this up end of last week … $50 FBM! 2000(?) GT Timberline. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a mountain bike to keep in my work office/shop for quick lunchtime ride on the trails that run along the university campus. The seller had a group of bikes and I saw it peeking out from the...

Summer Fun: ‘74 Schwinn Speedster Camelback

Whoa!… what a response-reply timelinesses bogart I am! Matti, totally agree with your observations…. I’m going to keep to the one speed look, after all, It is the original aesthetic that suckered me into buying the bike to begin with. However, I still would like some gears to take on the hilly...

Summer Fun: ‘74 Schwinn Speedster Camelback

It has been so long since posting on this forgot where I left off! Assembled with new brake calipers and cables. The old chain was just long enough to attain a reasonable chain-line alignment with a rear sprocket that wouldn’t want to jump off. Went for a quick test spin. Being the first time...

Second donor bike had black rims but prefer silver with this bike. The black anodizing was so worn that after an hour with a grey scotch brite and soapy water had it looking ok.

Summer Fun: ‘74 Schwinn Speedster Camelback

…. rainy days reinforce the need for fenders! The front will need some brackets fabricated to lower it plus new grabs on the axle. The rear I’m trimming off the mangled section and a new bracket to lower.

Alright… I have been working on this since the moment it arrived home but every time I come to RRB to update I end up reading other posts and use up my daily forum screen time!!! You will also have to excuse the lack of pics… my enthusiasm overshadowed the bloggin process! No test rides were...

Howdy from Duluth MN… ‘74 Speedster Camelback

^^^^ … you all are cracking me up!!^^^^^ I lived 12 years in Santa Fe prior where the blood sucking bug index was negligible but grew up on the Jersey coast and Houston where it is not!! I can deal with the skeeters and flies… it’s the ticks which keep me out of the woods right now!!!

Howdy from Duluth MN… ‘74 Speedster Camelback

With rides to those locations you would develop legs of iron! I do enjoy riding up in the Woodlands and out to Park Point. Moving here was the impetus to start cycling again since there are so many trail/path options! Was hoping the long cold winter would have reduced the numbers of those...
