Same issues here, I bought mine of ebay and was disappointed when I pulled it out of the box. I should have returned it right then. They do not fit on Schwinn Frames! The cast black legs are full of pits, the chrome seems nice though. The dropouts are not drilled for newer wheel axle size and...

Cool, nice job...very clean. That is exactly how I got started many years ago building cruisers. It was alot of fun building for other people, kept me from building too many bikes for myself! Now I havn't sold a bike in awhile and I have too many bikes for myself! :shock:

I second the graphite...works great and isn't too messy. Wipe up the excess...I've also used really lightweight oil. Works for springer forks as well.

Just a little FYI...that is probably not a Schwinn Frame and it's probably much older than a 53. Most companies ditched the reverse dropouts right before WW2. A 53 schwinn looks just like a later model with the stamped dropouts that favce forwards. I would guess by looking at that bike is is...

YOu take it apart from the brake side and it slides out as one unit from what I remember, pretty easy. I'm going to take one apart for my next custom to get the hub shell powdercoated.

These hubs need almost nothing to keep them running. You can take the internals out of the hub shell easily...clean them with a light degreaser like Simple Green if it is dirty then oil with a lightweight oil. Not sure exactly what Shimano recommends but I've used some basic lubes to keep it...
