1940? schwinn ratty truck kustom ALL DONE PICS ARE UP!

kingplinker, I think those are metal conduit clamps I got at the hardware store. They come with a rubber peice on the strap, I took that off and they fit perfectly on the 1" tubes of the frame. The signboard is a reproduction made by a guy in california. I also use a smaller version of those...

    Getting to excited

Get one of these...or swing by a bicycle shop and see if you can borrow theirs... http://www.parktool.com/products/detail ... em=FFS%2D2 I picked up a used one long ago and use it all the time to fix old frames and bend new tubes...very handy tool!

Problems with Crossbow's Monarch Springer Forks

Same issues here, I bought mine of ebay and was disappointed when I pulled it out of the box. I should have returned it right then. They do not fit on Schwinn Frames! The cast black legs are full of pits, the chrome seems nice though. The dropouts are not drilled for newer wheel axle size and...

    built for a "customer"...

Cool, nice job...very clean. That is exactly how I got started many years ago building cruisers. It was alot of fun building for other people, kept me from building too many bikes for myself! Now I havn't sold a bike in awhile and I have too many bikes for myself!

    Quieting a springer seat down

I second the graphite...works great and isn't too messy. Wipe up the excess...I've also used really lightweight oil. Works for springer forks as well.

    My ratbike project

Just a little FYI...that is probably not a Schwinn Frame and it's probably much older than a 53. Most companies ditched the reverse dropouts right before WW2. A 53 schwinn looks just like a later model with the stamped dropouts that favce forwards. I would guess by looking at that bike is is...

    nexus 7 overhaul

YOu take it apart from the brake side and it slides out as one unit from what I remember, pretty easy. I'm going to take one apart for my next custom to get the hub shell powdercoated.

    YEAH BABY!!!!

From what I've gathered over the years that was a one year only frame in 1961, then in 1962 the twin tubed molded into the seat stays. Then they stopped making the bikes like that. I built a custom 1962 like that, very cool and pretty rare. Nice score. I have some red tires if you're...

    nexus 7 overhaul

These hubs need almost nothing to keep them running. You can take the internals out of the hub shell easily...clean them with a light degreaser like Simple Green if it is dirty then oil with a lightweight oil. Not sure exactly what Shimano recommends but I've used some basic lubes to keep it...

New here, but not new to the bikes...

Thanks all, I took a bit of a hiatus from the bikes when I moved back to Texas from California...moved into another project vehicle..my 1962 cadillac that is slowly turning into a mild custom. Still working, buying and selling bikes...recently added a Dyno Von Franco and Moon Eyes to the...

New here, but not new to the bikes...

Hey all, My name is Bryan and I first started customizing classic Schwinn cruisers back in 99. Started with a pretty basic schwinn from the 60's and put on a Nexus 7 hub, roller brakes, apes and had ti custom powdercoated...then I started building a few more and selling them as fast as I...
