Thanks. I got some wooden dowel and cut it to length, bored them out to 7/8 i.d. and then carved the center out about 1/8 deep. Once the rough shape was done I just sanded to get the shape I had in mind and stained them. The center is just 1/8 inch square leather cord from the craft supply...

icyuod2, Thanks. I actually have a picture of your bike in my picture collection. I was going to use expanded metal for the flames, but went with the copper because it looked better.

Thanks guys, I was debating on changing the frame, but the area to put the wood insert into wasn't very big, so I hacked away. The wood is rough-sawn cherry and I gave it a weathered look with a vinegar solution. The grips are made out of wooden dowel and thin leather cord. I found some leather...

I picked a Hawthorne up at a local bike shop. It was in pretty rough shape. I figured the rough patina would add to the look I was after. I'll see if I can attach some pictures.
