As with all Kingfish builds this is gonna be a fun one to watch. Your ability to reuse things way outside their intended use has always been an inspiration to see.

Saw this and thought of Kingfish's build...

Picked up this bike part this morning with this build in mind.

That's a cool wheel!

Now you'll need one of these.

It is a polished stainless steel boat wheel and I actually have two or three of those spinner knobs sitting around.

First mockup shows potential.

I always try to have fun with my builds. Using unusual things like kiddie car parts and boat steering wheels just comes natural after watching and learning from others over the years in these build offs.

Here are some more pics of the first steering wheel mockup to get the vibe from different angles.

I've wondered if there is a way to make a bicycle version of the old shoe shaped, waffle pattern, throttle pedals for bike pedals. That would really go with your steering wheel.

Looks like this build is 'steering' you in the right direction! :wondering::hi::bigsmile:

As usual if you listen long enough, the build starts to talk to you and tell you what it wants to do (or what it doesn't want to do in some cases).

One problem that I have had is that the neither the stem nor the wedge nut have budged even the slightest bit after a couple of weeks of pb blaster and whackamole practice. I was about ready to cut the stem off so that I could remove the fork and steertube and get a new steertube welded up.

But after this stainless steering wheel popped up on fb marketplace at a supercheap price last night, a bell went off. Maybe I can attach this to the frozen tall stem??? Once I got it home and did the Craftman screwdrive mounting test, mounting ideas started flowing. I love the way that the front part of the stem fits extremely well right into the recessed channels under the steering wheel spokes. This will give it more stability.

I could also see that I will need to add some spacers between the bolt section of the stem and the underside of the steering wheel so that the wheel will mount perpindicular to the stem.

The other mounting question I had to answer was exactly how to bolt it securely to the stem. I can't get anything to thread down deep into the frozen wedge nut. So as I was pondering bolting options, i pulled out my tap and die kit to see if maybe I could just tap big threads directly into the old stem bolt hole. It looks like this should work if I go with a 7/16" - 14 bolt. After taking the steering wheel to the hardware store, i got them to help me find some bolts, spacers, and sleeves that should make this possible.

It was so fun when the first guy walked up to me and asked if he could help. You should have seen his face when I asked him tot help me mount the shiny boat wheel to a bicycle! :D :D :D :D He jumped right in after I described my ideas and showed him photos.

That would be fun. I've always thought it would be fun to make some pedals from the old "hang ten" barefott gas pedal covers. Somewhere I even have one for the small dimmer pedal covers like this.

This actually won't be my first time using a steering wheel on a build off bike.
Way back in BO6 on my rookie build off entry BEER RUN, with only one day left I found these parts at a yard sale

With those parts (and some others), in one day BEER RUN morphed from this

Lol life of a ratter. But now that hardware store guy is thinking about a build with that old thing in the back of his garage

That build might have been my first year on RRB. I believe @bighit from Underground Velo was in that buildoff as well. You guys were doing crazy stuff with bikes that I had never seen before. Good times
