Last night I went to HomeDepot to get some bolts and nuts and washers and spacers so that I could experiment of attaching and creating the wine stop end of my baseball bat tank. I took the tank and wine stop with me and one fun part was explaining what I was looking for to the assistant that was bored and wanted to help me out. :D . I'm sure he's seen a lot of stuff, but what aisle to you point a customer that is trying to combine a baseball bat and a wine stop? :D :D The look on his face was priceless.

I had a very productive lunch in the shop.

I had already decided that there wasn't much area at the base of the bat for the SteelStik to grip to. So, I figured out a way of using washers and a bolt. Since the bat is tapered, I was able to make a big washer bolt head and slide this down from the top and then bolt up the bottom to hold it in place.

Tapped out the 5/16ths threads a little better in the wine stop.
Then mocked it up with a long point and a short one.

I didn't like being able to see the threads through the exhaust slots, so I decided to experiment with just washers and nuts to make the void mimic something mechanical.

I felt the smaller end washer wasn't sufficient and didn't dress the end enough. So I mounted a larger fender washer and marked it up for grinding.

First pass grinding the washer on the bolt in my hand, I was surprised that I did a pretty good job of keeping it round and centered. But I felt I needed to do the finish grinding with it attached to the tank end. I am very pleased with how well it meshes together now.

I had already determind that the wine stop needed to be farther away from the end to better follow the taper of the bat tank. So I tested it with a one inch spacer.

I felt there needed to be better flow between the bat end and wine stop, so I sliced the spacer in half and added a washer in between. This is much better. I may play around with different spacers and such for the final product, but I am pleased with the work today.

I put the nose back on the tank and took it out to get the fish's opinion.

Before going back to work, I had to roll the bike out and test it out. I'm digging it.

I don't know what the dimensions are but the first thing I thought of when I saw that gap between the wine stopper and the bat was a drink jigger. For some reason that taper just seemed like it would feel that gap nicely

I think I have one of those in my yard sale stash. It may be a little big, but maybe just one half of it with the cup facing backwards. Thanks for the idea.

I could see something like the bigger end of this could look like a thrust chamber in front of the wine stop

Maybe I can train one of the fish to steer it like the incredible Mr. Limpet.

Not so sure I'm feeling the thrust chamber look for this it could look good for the piece, but I don't think so for the build itself.
