Looking at my coaster brake that I would like to use and it seems to have a skiptooth cog on it. Can this be used with the 48 tooth chainring and regular chain or do I need to change the cog? Where can I get a cog at for it? Thanks.

You will have to change the sprocket out. Skip tooth and standard chain don't mix. I believe i have that same hub with a standard sprocket. I could trade with you if you will pay for the shipping. My hub is going to be turned into a cut-away so I will need all the parts. PM me if you are interested.

Upon further disassembling the hub it looks as though the sprocket use to be a 20t! Did people really do this 20+ years ago? This bike was behind my Dad's barn when I lived there in the 80's! I'm kinda amazed by this in a way! What do you think? Attached are the pics I took when I took it apart. Let me know what you think.

looks like a standard thats already been ground down (maybe a newer wheel put on an older skip tooth set-up ?) Still I'd just put a new standard sprocket on it and roll.

Got a 48t Shelby chainring (or so I was told it is a Shelby) and don't know how to calculate what sprocket I need. This bike must have been made up of leftovers. Also need a fork for a 26". Any ideas?

Would a new Nexus 20t cog work on my Bendix? Saw one on Bikestop.com for $4. None of the shops near me have a sprocket I can use. They only carry sprockets for cassettes. They don't really cater to cruiser bikes around here.

Maybe you could call shops in or near Charleston and arrange to have a standard cog shipped to you. That area DOES cater to cruisers. In a big way too. I found a shop there that carried nothing but cruisers. I think they had every single combo of colors, seat, fenders, baskets, tires, etc. in Electras. They had the front area outside as well as indoors full of these cruisers and accessories. But if there is a salvage yard near you, you might find a single speed bike there and get the cog from it for real cheap. Those 3-notch standards are most common. Most hubs from the 70's up seem to have them, even on new hubs from cheap walmart bikes like the hi-stop hubs. Half of the members here I'm sure have stacks of these cogs around, but if cost is the factor then a salvage yard would be best.

Thanks deorman! That site has alot of neat goodies. Will the Sturmey Archer sprocket work? Would you recommend the 16t ,19t or 22t for the 48t chainring? It's going to be mainly a street cruising bike.
