I just started cleaning multilayers of paint off a 1940s Shelby Eagle..girls model. It appears that the much of the frame so far is made of brass, was this common?

I have a shock from a shelby, one of those articulated shock forks, there appears to be a coating on the metal that looks like brass but I think that would be much too soft of a metal. Try a magnet on it.

Depending when in the forties it was made, I would think using larger quantities of brass would have been a no no . With the WW2 munitions needing large quantities for ammo. casings and all. Maybe a larger patch using a brass brazing rod? :?

I noticed a lot of brass on my '39-41 Hiawatha. I am pretty sure it's from the brazing as it's near all the welds but it does extend quite a bit. I don't know if these old guys just did this way or if they were bad welders?
