Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser TriColor update 2/17

Didn't get a whole lot done this week but I did pick up some shiny hardware and a can of clear.

anyone have any thoughts on how to shine up the brass badge without messing up the black paint?

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser TriColor update 2/17

Almost forgot, cought up with a guy down the road with a huge sandblasting cabinet! I'll be bringing him the rear rack tomorrow. Too many nooks and crannies to get all the surface rust off that thing.

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser TriColor update 2/17

Maybe just some tarnish remover will do it? Brasso or whatever it's called.

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser TriColor update 2/17

maybe...I remember using tobasco sauce to clean up brass. It's just green oxidation which comes off easy with a brass brush but so does the black paint so I think it's going to have to be some kind of chemical process.

heating up the tent now for the rear fender, fork and maybe a coat of clear on the front fender and chainguard.

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser TriColor update 2/17

more painting, clear coated some stuff and shot the fork and rear fender green.

Here's how I did matching fork darts..

2 layers masking tape

a little bit of green seeped under the tape, should be an easy clean up, I hope...

here's the crankset I'll be installing

Anyone have any thoughts on how to get this color into my pinstripe bottle?

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser Fork Darts 2/23

thanks buddy. I wish I didn't have to do the clean up bit but no biggie.

I've seen guys drill out the bottom of a spray can to pour out the paint for a gun, anyone done this? seems a bit reckless but I doubt I'll find the same color in a hobby shop.

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser Fork Darts 2/23

Hold the can upside down first and spray all the gas out, then slowly prise off the top small ring around the spray nozzle, done it before, works fine...

Luke.

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser Fork Darts 2/23

I'll try both methods and let you know how it goes.

bit of a distraction this morning..7" and still falling heavy.

Tried some tobasco sauce, it helped and I think I'm going to stop here..lost a little paint on the "Fire" but should be easy touch up, or just leave it..

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser SNOW & Tobasco 2/24

Now THAT is attention to detail!

Digging this one SO much! The Mrs. likes it too, but I'm NOT repainting hers.....:D

Looking forward to the next update.

Cheers,
Dr. T

Re: 1941 Firestone Cruiser SNOW & Tobasco 2/24

Thanks for the support :D

totally exhausted tonight so no work on the project

Fender rivets are on the way and that will help out alot in getting this thing together. rear rack is over at my new friend Ed's shop for sandblasting as I could not clean up the underside with a wire brush. Also having him blast a shelby springer fork while he's at it...Should have those parts back by the weekend.

I need to either locate a pinstriping brush or thicken up the enamel so it wont pour out of the Buegler bottle, what a mess! Nobody pinstripes around here.

I think a repop set of teardrop pedals are in order too and a new lense for the Delta light. After those purchases I think it's just a matter of putting it together. The owner did mention some color matched saddlebags but I may put her in charge of that, we'll see...
