I bought two post war Schwinns to serve as candidate platforms for the multispeed cruiser project: a 1956 Schwinn Spitfire and a 1946 Schwinn DX. I am keeping the DX and will be selling the Spitfire. I've begun work on the DX- cleaning up the fenders/braces, tapping out dents in the tank and fenders, and generally getting acquainted with the project.

What kind of multi speed are you going to make it? Kickback? Nexus 7? I have a '41 DX and it's one of my favorites. The wing on the tank makes it. Gary

I have Sturmey Archer S30 3 speed coaster brake for it. I plan on using a skip tooth conversion cog to run the skip tooth set up on the Sturmey Archer. It will probably be an 11 (22 regular) tooth cog for some extra climbing ability.

I love the tanks on these too- you're right about the wing.
