Re: Fresh Find! No need for apes!!!

A Corvette only wishes it came with a tank. That's a Jaguar. It came with a double strut stoplight Phantom rack when new. Love those stainless fenders. They'll still be around 50 yrs. from now. The long stem looks like it came off of a Schwinn Cycle Truck. Pricey item. Gary

Re: Fresh Find! No need for apes!!!

I had a stem like that on an old Western Flyer... This is it pushed in as low as it would go:

That western flyer was stolen BTW so if anybody sees it ever, let me know. :x

Great find, it's in nice shape! 8)

Cool find.
Those are some unusual handlebars even without the stem.

Re: Fresh Find! No need for apes!!!

Your Jaguar is most likely a 1958. Built on Dec. 10th 1958. The M represents Dec. and the 8 means 1958. The serial # on your bike is 7 characters long which matches up with the date codes for 1958. In 1954 the serial #'s were only 6 characters long. Plus a 1954 Jaguar would have had Balloon tires with S2 rims rather than middle weight tires with S7 rims. Also I believe the 1954 model did not come with a tank.

Weird thing is that the serial number points to 1958 which would make it a Mark ll Jaguar but the tank and seat on your bike are from a Mark lv Jaguar which were made from 59-61. I think because this bike was made so late in the year it may have received the new style logo on the tank and the new for 59 "S" lettered sear.

Blue is one of the rarer colors for this model.

here is a pic of my two 58 Jags
