Just picked this up off CL. I can't tell if the paint is original. Looks nice but the chainguard paint is definately not. I plan on putting a Springer on and Sweetheart skiptooth.

I might try but I would have to find a front fender for a springer.

fancy front hub too
Cheap Shimano hub with some Alesa alloy rims. The spokes are way heavy. I might strip the rim and use as a back wheel.

I put the red Schwinn Springer on it. I think I found out why they were $15.00. The inside Diameter was smaller than 21.2mm. Took the grinder to the stem. The Sweetheart is on, now I hope the Skiptooth chain I have will be long enough. Next battle is the rear wheel. I lost the nuts to the New Departure hub. Found one but still without the other. I was also thinking of a 24x3 on the rear.

Re: 1959 SCHWINN TORNADO?

It looks different than chainguards as it does does not have a flat face. It probably won't make it on the bike as it doesn't fit with the Sweetheard skiptooth.

They only made the twin bar tornados like that in 1962 g.l. Tony 8)

The serial number reads 1959.....Locojoe has one like it also from the first RRBBO. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=548

This frame was made for a couple years and I think may have been used for the Flying Star also. You may be thinking of the Typhoon from 1962. It was different as the cantilever bars went all the way back to the dropouts.

Forgot to mention that problem with mine! :x  I used a file!
L8 EM

Duke= Your fix was probably the right way.. taking metal from the stem if probably not smart. I guess it will be fine as long as I don't take it of any Sweet Jumps.

Randy, I forgot about that one. Thanks as I can see the chainguard looks like the John Deere bike.

how much did you pay for it? Im just wondering because I found one of them and they are asking $200 for it. It has some rust and needs new paint

$200 sounds like a lot to me unless it's in really nice shape.

If it's in rough shape then $50-$100 is probably more reasonable.

That's what I had in mind I will make them an offer and see what happens. It would be nice to have a project to work on.

Rat Rod already got the answer but yes $50-100 for something with good wheels and rubber.

I paid $50 for this one. It is now sold
This is what it looked like when sold.
