A friend found this basket case on the side of the house he just moved into, left for dead, no wheels, major rust, the infamous Shimano FF front freewheel siezed, and the equally unpopular Positron shifters and cables becoming nothing more than rust....
Found out by the serial# and headbadge stamp it's an April of 1982 Deluxe Varsity. He asked if I could "fix" it....and being as he does window tinting, and my car needs the windows tinted.....I said sure, why not, just tint my car when I'm done. He said cool, and here we have the end result:
I was able to rescue the siezed front freewheel, found a new cable and shifter set up for the Positron deraileur, a new chain, found some nice used wheels with the correct fixed rear gear cluster at a used parts shop, replaced the drop bars with Origin 8 bull bars and grips, a nice cushy seat and new brake levers and calipers and cleaned 'er up real well. He's giving it to his wife for her birthday! It's the weirdest thing watching the chain move when you're NOT pedaling, but it works and shifts great. Another one back from the dead.
