Hey guys, I know nothing about Whizzers, except that they are sought after by some.

Is a 50th anniversary Whizzer interesting to anyone, or just worthless junk somebody sold to capitalize on the name?

Reason I ask: somebody's got one for sale on Fort Myers Craigslist.

I'm imagining that this is not front page news, but I didn't want to fail to mention it in case someone was actually looking for one.

The downside to the new ones is that the frame is built with a flat plate for the engine to mount to, so I don't know how easy a frame swap would be.

They obviously aren't as sought after as the originals, but the guy near me who was a dealer said whizzer never sold the name to an overseas company. He said they just used an overseas manufacturer that went out, I guess they've been trying to find another manufacturer.

Who knows what could happen, but I'm still considering getting one.

Edit: now that I look at the one above, I see it's different than the ones I've been looking at. Now I'm confused.

I'm glad this was at least interesting to a few of you.

I didn't even recall that there was a modern reproduction model until I saw this one on CL last night.

Does anyone know: Are these newer ones at least somewhat true to original design?

From what I know, they're more motorcycle. 138cc, electric start.

I have a sales flyer I'll take a pic of.

Not my style..I collect the old Whizzers. BUT I've seen members here and elsewhere do some amazing things with the motors.

Any running Whizzer motor kit of any kind will bring close to $1000. Definitely the best choice for bicycle motor.

So you think even the modern ones are a good choice?
I've been told the clutches are junk, but can be upgraded.
It might be worth the $1200 just to build off of.

Hahaha the old 40's and 50's Whizzer clutches aren't that great either but they work good enough once you get the feel.

The automatic clutches are the best choice but that will set you back $500+.

Well I guess if you plan on having one for a long time you may as well put in the time and money.

Yeah, I'm trying to get one or two next time they come available

I know a guy that has three, or atleast he did last time I was at his shop. But they are different than the one pictured at the top of this thread. 2008 model maybe?
I don't think they convert to bicycle frames.

So I realize now the one pictured at the top of the thread is an NE5, the ones I've been looking at are Ambassadors.
There are obvious differences between the two.

I'm fairly certain the NE5 parts could swap easily to a vintage frame, not a direct bolt on but easy.
Here are pics of the sales flyers I have.
