Good work on the rear end. Those forks are modern Schwinn. Kinda a fat thick version of Schwinn blade forks.

I haven't had much time to work on my build but did manage to get the old dropouts cut off and the new ones tacked on. Also started to tack stuff up before I ran out of wire in my welder.
IMG_20240515_190555922_HDR.jpg

Forgot to take a pic of the dropouts tacked on . Don't have a lot of clearance but these tires are 2,325 I think the ones I am using are 2.125 so should get a little more clearance because the further back I go it gets closer. Might have to cut the tack welds loose and adjust them a little as I had to let air out of the tire to get it on.

Today I worked on the seat a friend gave me a knee cushion I could use for the seat

It's about a 1 1/2" thick it has some forgiveness but don't totally collapse. Cut the pieces out for the seat

drilled some holes thru the brackets and seat base ran some bolts thru the seat
IMG_20240519_151658653_HDR.jpg

Then went about looking for something to use for a cover for the seat only thing I found was this brown fake leather that had enough for both parts. Got it covered and put on to see how it looked. I think it turned out okay did the best I could with the wrinkles around the corners.

Pretty much on hold till I can get some more wire for my welder so I can get everything finish welded.

I'm digging the downsized nanner

Got some wire and finished up the welding. Got a little bit of body work done yesterday and today. It don't look like a lot of progress but took yesterday and a little while after work today.
IMG_20240602_171517382_HDR.jpg

I also worked on a tank first I made a template out of cardboard marking the holes for the tabs.
IMG_20240527_154715162.jpg

Transferred that to some wood cut it out drilled some holes and temporarily mounted it. Need to get some different hardware for permanent mounting.
IMG_20240602_171451703_HDR.jpg

Tonight when I was in the shed I saw this light I could use for a tail light tried a couple different mounting spots.
Down under the seat
IMG_20240603_191722425_HDR.jpg

Or right behind the backrest of the seat
IMG_20240603_192100338_HDR.jpg

Kinda liking it under the seat will have to see how it looks when I get a back tire on.

I'd have to see the step back view before I could decide.

I like that light. Like you said, you'll have to see how it plays with the tire in place, but I think it will work hidden under the seat.

Finally done a mock-up done this weekend couple hours Saturday and couple hours today before it got to hot today even with the widow a/c in my shed. I need to get it insulated at least the ceiling would help a lot.
Tried out some different stuff but didn't like it and came down to a couple options.
First I had to drill and tap a hole for the chain guard.
IMG_20240608_125119877.jpg

Tried a couple different fender options some flat top think maybe off huffy cut down where the green tape is
IMG_20240608_155519512_HDR.jpg

The rear fender that came on this bike cut down and used for both ends
IMG_20240609_161058415_HDR.jpg

And no fenders
IMG_20240609_162241040_HDR.jpg

Tried out different handlebars kinda like these stock Harley the beefy ness matches the bigger down and top tubes. Main problem is that they don't have knurling in the middle would have to figure something out for that. And they are a little wide so maybe cut some off the ends.
Wanting to try a two tone using different base colors with some shimmer metallic candy apple red to give a lighter color on top and darker down low starting at the top paint line.
I have a couple things left to do like a mount for the brake arm some sort of brackets if I decide on fenders.

Looking good! I like the beefy bars with the fat frame tubes too. Maybe you could score the bar in the clamp area with some light cuts with hack saw? Give it some bite.

I saw a really cool hot rod paint job at the car show this past Friday. Black under coat makes for a dark look to the metallic, as opposed to a light coat like a silver, which would make it really bright. I will try to do a couple of stills from a friend's video, I know he shot about 3 hrs of the show.

Another thing I've seen that is really cool, and @Dr. Tankenstein did a bit of this effect on his build a couple RRB BO's ago. Use a gloss black as a complimentary color to your satin matte black. Has a really cool effect!

Getting close to painting and I am liking the look of the bottom pic.

If I could find someone who can draw out some flames it would tie in with the Electra flame tires I'm using. Almost forgot about a bracket for the brake arm cut something out drilled a bunch of holes close together. Then used the grinder to get the rest out.

Just need to get it welded up and it should be ready for paint.

I know some guys have really beat up the stem area of those bars with sharpish big screwdrivers and heavy whacks for a hammer to actually chew up the needed knurled space. If you go too light there is a good chance they will still slip.
What are the green tape lines on the bike? Are they just for alignment, or are you mocking up some sort of side accents?

The tape was where I was thinking about doing a two tone paint but I am going in a different direction now

Not much accomplished just some figuring out.i like the look of the thicker tube handle bar but the knurling is in the wrong spots and feel a little too wide. Was looking at them tonight and realized that the stem is like a 1 1/4" .
IMG_20240617_192537475.jpg

Each knurling is about 1/2" and if I came in the other 1/8" on each side and cut out the middle 3" or so it would bring the knurling in to fit the stem and make them not so wide. Also it would hide the weld under the stem. I have a piece of tubing that will fit tight with a little work to keep them straight and strengthen the weld joint.

Sounds like a good solution

Managed to get the handle bar cut and a piece of tubing inside that had a tight fit so everything was straight. Clamped it down to my outside workbench to keep the back and forth lined up and left a little gap .
IMG_20240619_174710797.jpg

Welded up the gap but this cheap welding wire gives off a lot of splatter luckily it didn't get outside the knurling.
IMG_20240619_175342243.jpg

Just need to grind down a couple spots where the weld sticks up a little. The back of the seat was bugging me so I came up with a idea to cover the wood, staples, and ends of the material that I covered the seat with. I have some sheet metal so I used the template I cut the back out and made a backing plate for it.
IMG_20240619_202900546.jpg

Just going to hit it up with a quick sand and paint it the same color as the frame. Hopefully I will get to paint this weekend weather permitting. Then while it's drying get my other build started.

Got the frame resanded and reprimed ,the stem and top of the fork sanded and primed today so they are ready for paint.
IMG_20240623_190927276_HDR.jpg

Still need to get the chain guard sanded and primed and the tank edges routed primed and get ready for paint. I got the back rim painted black to match the front but need to repaint it.

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing the shrunken bars.

Yesterday I got the frame and fork painted with ultra matte black sorry about the crappy pics.

This morning while looking for a seat for my traditional build I found some black leather I knew I had somewhere. Not liking the brown stuff on the seat off it came.

A lot harder to work with than the other stuff that was thinner. That and I suck at upholstery.
