So with all this buildoff stuff finally done for, i think its time to share my recent finds.
recently fast eddie had a late 40s hiawatha up for sale, sadly real life caught up quickly and i had to back out of the deal (i still feel awful about that eddie). at the same time a friend of mine, mad with desire went out and bought this hiawatha from craigslist, he had it in mind that he would make up a juicy trade for some other stuff. it worked.
its a 48 hiawatha fleet wing. next years build off - we shall see. for now, i made the horn work, and ive been riding it around... it needs lots of work to be really ridable, but its pretty awesome as it sits.
so a few days later on saturday im standing outside admiring my trade when i see the dreaded scrap metal guy roll past. i saw rusty fenders and i had to stop him. i didnt even take a good look at the bike and realized that i could negotiate with the guy. so pulled the bike down off the back of the truck and this is what it was
its a 1948 schwinn new world - not really my style of bike, but im learning that its a pretty cool bike... as far as plans, i havent made up my mind yet if im going to keep it or not, but the back wheel is badly bent and its missing a few spokes a quick fix, if i had a bit more money, but the original tires hold air and the good old new departure still works
with the buildoff fresh in my mind, both of these bikes are a possibility for next year!
