I picked up these two 80’s Taiwanese built mtb’s today for $25 primarily for the bullnose bar and long brake levers.
The red bike has this crazy rear centre pull cantilever brake I have never seen before. It mounts to the frame using only the bolt in the centre of the assembly and has a rubber bush on each side for it to rest on the stays.
The wheels on the red bike are trashed and the "Sumo"branded Araya copies on the yellow bike need some work and could be saved. I was surprised to find a Tange headset on the red bike with 32.5mm cups instead of the 30mm cups you find on mtb’s of this era. The cranks are SR and fairly heavy but look cool. The yellow bike has a quick release Suntour seat post clamp that will find a new home on my off road build off bike.
