20 x 2.125 tire question

Ok this might be a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway. I have a 20x2.125 whitewall tire and a 5-speed 36 spoke disk brake hub. I've been looking for a 20 inch rim with 36 holes to lace it to. However almost every rim I can find that is 20x2.125 and has 36 holes uses the heavy gauge spokes (12g). So my question is if you use a 20x1.75 or 20x2.0 rim will the tire still work? I thought maybe you could drill out the holes on the hub to accept the larger gauge spokes, but that doesn't sound very likely. Any help is greatly appreciated.

should do fine, ive had 20x2.125 tires on 1.5" OD rims, straight from the bikeshop.

I think it will be fine as well. I have 3" wide tires on 1.75 rims and theres no problem

Thanks for the responses. I have access to a cheap 20x1.75 rim so that makes me happy.
