i too have a roadie inside screaming to get out, but with the right amount of food and beer - i can get him to shut up.. :D

I watched the TT section and the build up yesterday on VS. Just imagine how hard it is for these guys to do on these state of the art NASA technology superbicycles they used today compared to what they did that first race 97 years ago. Huge props to those guys. I'd be like taking one of our rat bikes and racing it. lol.

2009 TDF i saw a interview with an italian gentleman, he rode all the mountain stages of the pyrenees, but he did it on a 1920th race bike, it did have two different gears, but you´d have to get off the bike, loosen and flip the rear wheel to get a lighter gear... quite a fellow..

It's been a good race so far. Too bad Armstrong has had some dumb luck this year. Be interesting to see comes out on top after the mountain climbs. Maybe this will be Evans or Schlecks year this time?

Nothing against the Spanish, but they have dominated this race for a few years now. Now they have the World Cup, so I'm secretly hoping a Spaniard(aka Contador or Carlos Sastre) doesn't take the Tour. Can Schlek last, isn't he the weaker of the brother? Cadel will freak out and beat up a reporter or fan, this dude hash is temper tantrums, kind of funny.Another guy to watch out for maybe Denis Menchov.

From what I read just this morning is that Armstrong basically threw in the towel. He's not completely quiting but mainly just riding for the team now after his three crash race this weekend set him so far back. He also isn't quiting completely since it's his last tour. It's funny though with all the Lance hooplah though and how bad he's doing. Every commercial is a Radio Shack, Nissan or Michelob since their all his sponsors and he completely blows this year.

That's why he should have quit while he was on top, always go out with a bang.

Armstrong isn't doing that bad. Probably looking at a top ten position. The time gaps are so big already I wonder if this race will be over well before the end. Andy will need like 2-3 minutes over Contador before the time trial. If you want to see how to descend check out Sammy Sanchez on the final downhill stage 9, this dude is a maniac, some scary moves and hairpin bends at 70 mph.

I saw the big hillclimb last night,....some very impressive riding indeed. The chase down the hill of the leaders and on down the final flat stretch was cool to see too.

Unfortunately, Lance doesn't have a chance for the podium, but he'll still finish well overall despite his bad fall/slide.

The next couple rides should see a great few battles, and some really tight competition.

I've got a lot of respect for Lance. All the negative press has always fueled a lot of actionciones that has had an effect on many riders in the TDF over the years. I'm thinking Lance has to dig his fox hole deep every night, to survive all the crap he has withstood all these years! God bless Texas! Thanks !!!

Tonight was interesting with Andy's "mechanical". Pretty good comeback but not enough. Will make tomorrow even more interesting.

Heres my take on the TDF. My earliest remembrance of the tour goes back to 1966 or1967 in the National Speed and Sports Newsletter that my dad subscribed to. Thanks to Chris Economaki for dispatching someone to to cover the TDF. It garnered over the those years at best a 30 second sound bite on ABC's Wide World of Sports here in America. Mr. Economaki did a weekly newsletter featuring news from the racing world mainly featuring motorsports of the day.. Only thing was it was by the time the postman deliverd it, it was usually 90 days past what actually happened. So the TDF had to share space with whomever won the Indy 500 or the Daytona 500 race for that year . And you guys that were around back then remember any racing news shown on American TV was subject to delayed broadcast. Sometimes many weeks. But for many years, it was the only deal we had here in USA for the TDF. It wasn't until the mid 1970's when big dish satellite receivers came on that you could actually receive a live signal from French TV and then unless you spoke French, you didn't understand a word spoken. It may have been different for you guys in the continental EU, but here in the hillbilly South USA, it was all we had. So it's great that I can watch several re-runs of the days tour on my basic cable subscription of the live TDF. I'll shut up now. Thanks!!!

Contador displayed the world's greatest tailgating on stage 17. Proving you can win the tour without ever winning a stage. Never attacking or doing anything heroic. He rode smart, but still a bit boring to me. Now it's Dennis Menchov, "the silent assassin" vs Sastre for 3rd place.
