24"x3" tires and tubes: All compatible or Proprietary?

Can I buy any 24"x3" tire and or tube and have it fit my electra ghost rider? Are some of these fatter tires and tubes proprietary?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've used 24x3 tires on a stock 24" rim with no problems.

Nope. Any will work. You can even use a 24 x 2.125 tube but it will be thinner so you are going to be more prone to flats/pinch flats. I've heard that a 26 x 2.125 tube will work for a 24x3 but I haven't tried since I can get 24x3 tubes for less than $5 at my LBS.
Oops. This was about 24x3 TIRES on standard width rims.
Yeah, you can use them on a 1.75 rim or up to a 4" rim without problems.
