I plan on building a bike to look like the Felt El Guapo and I need fat tires. I have some questions about them:

Do you need a special wide rim? I think I've seen some pics of people using a regular 24" rim.

Where's a good place too buy fat tires (Electra Fatti-O's, Thick Bricks)?

Do you need a special tube? I read from another member that they just over inflate a regular 24" tube.

Thanks! :D

If anybody has used fat tires let me know!

You can put a wide tire on a narrow rim or wide rim. On a narrow rim the sidewalls will bulge out and make the tire appear fatter from the side, but your contact patch to the road will be smaller. On a wide rim the tire will not look as fat from the side, but facing it it will look wider and have a wider contact patch on the road. Either way, it's a fat looking tire. Comes to preference and money.

On Bad Apple, I used a regular 24" rim, a standard 24" tube & a 24x3 tire with no problems at all.

^^I in the other hand I had one of the regular 24" tubes blow up on me while I was airing it up. If you have a 24" inner tube to spare throw it on and see what happens. just keep your face clear

By the way there is a Felt guapo for $325 listed on the Costa Mesa Ca. CL. I regret not picking one up I saw on CL for $200. :x

I have to admit I have blown one up myself! Use a hand pump & not the compressor!

If you chose felt tires and buy them directly at the same time pic up some of their tubes also. They are worth it because they are so thick and can expanded out to 4".

Hey Schwinnray,
Looking forward to seeing how you put this one together
Maybe found another option for you at 24X3.0

Another trick to blowing up tires without blowing them out is to use powder when assembling them
No wrinkles or folds allowed
Manual pump up is another good suggestion from Pick
That's going to take some time and effort but it'll be good for your muscles
I usually pump them up to about 20 psi then check the bead and rim alignment (before I get too far)

Good Luck and keep us posted

As far as tubes go, a 26 x 2.125 tube will work perfectly (I bought the Bell puncture resistant ones at Wal-Mart)

Good luck young'en!
