I build stuff.
Like I've always said, never look a gift horse in the mouth. I take whatever anyone offers me, so when a friend pulled up with 2 worn out 16" girls bikes today I happily said "Thank you" and unloaded them from his truck. Didn't look like much at first, but then I realized some potential in the parts.
The Cinderella bike on top is the real score. The best thing I can say about the Huffy on the bottom is that it's got a good chain, and I'm always trying to add to my single speed chain supply.
Check out these tires, 16x2.25. These things are fat and they were holding air when it was dropped off. So what am I going to do with some fat 16" tires?
I built this bike for my son with the intention of putting some decent white tires on, now I have them! They might end up brown/tan as I attempt to dye them. I will do a write up on the results.
Anytime I can get a 4 bolt stem, I count that a success. Now, look at the bar, sorry, but I'm a sucker for a low-rise BMX bar, and this one has a non-crimped center support, it's actually pretty beefy, and just as wide as the one I use on my cruiser. Not sure where, but I'll be using this.
I picked up my daughter from a friend's house after school earlier in the day, I'd never been in this neighborhood. Going to turn around in the cul-de-sac I saw a bike by a trash can, wheel removed, looked rough. I knocked on the door, nobody home. I came back later, the owner was on the porch, he welcomed me with a smile I asked about the bike (by now I knew it was a Trek "comfort bike") and he told me to take it. Sweet, when his wife came out, it happened that I know her, they are members of the church.
This bike is rough, the wheels are bent all up, looks like one was run over. The seat is crooked, shock is busted, lots of bent stuff, but the frame is straight, crank too. Good. This is a nice aluminum frame, might be what I need to make my single speed MTB.
Another good day for a cheapskate.
