NOT my bike

I took apart mine, and after reassembling I can't get it to stay in gear and the thumb lever will just return to the 3 position. any help p-p-p-paleaaaaaaaaaaase?

That would make sense. I definitely lost this ball you speak of :x now to figure out if I can hook up a sturmey archer 3 speed shifter to it, or find a replacement ball  Thank you!

I tried all kinds of ball bearings, none were the right size, and it has to be exact. I got a magnetic telescoping thing from the dollar store and went around until the magnet grabbed it.

I did that once when I dropped the check balls out of my snowmobile carb onto a very dirty garage floor. Got a strong magnet and tied it to a string and found them.
