I've been out of the bike building for a few months now but this is what I needed to bring me back. I bought this frame and parts pile off my local bike shop owner for $15. Since the rust is so heavy I have decided to make it a Rat.
My serial number appears on the BB as followed...

(sorry didn't even feel like moving it for pictures)

After a bit of sanding a several coats of thick polyurethane clear coat. Sorry it still looks wet, it was not dry when I took these pictures.

Way cool buddy!!!
I knew I should have bought that frame when you had it on the market!!!
Welcome back!!!

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

I am putting every bit of knowledge I've gained, parts I've found are best, and looks I've grown to like, into this bike. 8)

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

I am looking forward to your build. I've got a late 30's Colson frame on the way that I want to moderately rat and it will be cool seeing the direction that you go with your Colson.

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

We missed you on here buddy! Well, except for when you buy up all the cool parts (I mean, kingfish was enough to deal with  )

I've seen this bike in person and if what you have planned happens, it's gonna be cool.
A very 'build it and ride it, not worry about it' state of mind behind it.

I do foresee a problem already though, that bolt is FAR too shiny! :D

Is that spray on poly or brush on? You definitely won't have to worry about scratching the paint.

I look forward to watching this one come alive!

Cheers,

That is brush on cut 50/50 with mineral spirits, and you know I've gotta have some shine to compliment the dull!

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

Wow, that looks like it was dragged out of the Chestnut Hollow junk pile! (and that's a compliment) Great save. -Adam

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

Dang I should have done that with mine

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

I like to take a flapper wheel to my goose necks rough them up and clear them and to my cranks to very cool look 8)

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

Thanks guys! This is really cool. I had no idea I would get a response from posting a rust bucket like this!

Re: 38 Special, The Reserection of a '38 Colson Left For Deal

Build looks real good thus far 8) ....everything is flowing well together.

I like a clearcoated patina....the clear seems to bring out the originality and true age of the bike.
