Sorry for the poor pictures.......just couldn't wait till tomorrow when it's daylight  I'll take a few more pictures tomorrow. Found an original paint '39 Schwinn DX. This was the first year for the DX and only year that the DX had the straight down tube and drop stand mounts built into the drop outs. I'm pretty excited about this one and can't wait to detail it.

Craigs List.......you must have went to the bathroom  It looks better in person.....I'd say about the same shape as the Elgin I got from you.

That is a nice bike Where did you find this one at.

I must of feel asleep on the job. seeing bikes like that on Cl just makes me want to check Cl more. Nice score

Nice find for sure. That's a model D97X. My '39 catalog shows it didn't come with a chain guard. Also, the catalog shows it with the grips with the ball on the end. Pedals are listed as Torrington. Your pedals have a large endcap. Are they marked AS on the cap by chance? If that is indeed the original paint, that has to be one of the nicest surviving paint jobs I've seen from 1939. Gary

That's awesome Jeff!!! I'm still waiting to get some parts to build up the '39 frame I bought from you.

Great find!!

Sweet find ! what a great example of a good survivor ,cant wait too see it detailed out ; looks good the way it is !

Thanks guys.....it's just a cool bike. Even if it is an entry level model. I'm going to resist the urge to deluxe it up.

Gary, thanks for that info. It's badged as a B.F.Goodrich. From the Goodrich catalog I've seen it's the base model DX. The paint is original for sure....couldn't see any place where it's been touched up. All of the chrome and plated stuff however has been brush painted silver. Sometimes thats a good thing. I'm going to completely disassemble this one and clean and wax it up, strip the paint off of the chrome and polish whats left of it and add a set of Silvertown tires. I have a nice set of handlegrips and I'll look closer at the pedals. The chainguard looks like an era correct aftermarket. I'm sure it came without one. I'm going to leave it on.

As the story was told to me. This bike came from the original family that purchased it new. The father that owned the bike came from a poor family that couldn't afford luxuries. He worked odd jobs till he saved the $25 he needed and went to the store and bought one. I'd say due to the fact that he paid for it on his own that it was taken better care of than most. I'm guessing $25 in 1939, is probably like $300 or so today.
