I spotted this on CL this morning for $20. Problem- 20 miles away, so I called a friend who lives out there. His wife went to pay and he pick it up this evening.

The ad says it is 5 spd and needs some TLC. Now I just need to figure out what to do with it. I wasn' t looking for a trike but just one of those deals too good to pass up.

Re: 5 Spd Trike

Good suggestions.......Clunker could be cool. BBQ/cooler combo would be perfect

I gonna tell the wife I am selling her minivan and this will be the replacement :D :D

Re: 5 Spd Trike

Nice find Clancy! I am curious to see what the rear hub/axle arrangement looks like. It seems like having a cassette and a rear derailluer would be pretty tricky on a trike  :?:
Oh and thanks for the tips on MTB rides , I rode a bunch of trails up 8th street and had a good time :D Next time I am in boise I will plan ahead so we can meet up.

Re: 5 Spd Trike

I want a trike to put studded tires out back and a blade up front to have an ice trike. It wuold have to have 'posi'.

I picked up the trike today. It is a Western Flyer with a 5 speed derailer setup. Cool little stem shifter. Gonna just fix it up and make ridable for now.

Nope Kiddies are pedalin around the neighbor hood just fine. :D Except I still drop my son off at school everyday- he rides on the back of the Xtraccycle.

I want one of those so I can turn it into a bike tow-truck, for all the free or cheap bikes I find when I am riding around this summer. I figure I could strap the front wheel of a bike into the back and drag it along behind me... if that's possible.

Man ,I cant take my eyes off it .The ideas are flowing especially with the 5 speed, adapting 15x10 slot mags with 50 series tires dumping the front end maybe a 20 inch springer and extending that shifter somehow or adapting a hurst shifter that sticks way up in the air.

Yea man gold street custom has got some awsome ideas the cooler and grill are a must that would be cool. Looks like there will be a minivan for sell real soon, :D good luck with that one

WOW! Big ideas. If you notice in the pic of the derailer, the rear axle unbolts fairly easy. I thought it would be cool to make a pedal car with the rear axle. Weld a frame with 2 wheel steering up front.

Make the pedal car! With a 5spd, that things gotta "boogie"!, I just finished working on a trike for a co-worker (single speed), wow are those things un-stable. Personally, I think a 5spd is suicidal (to fast)!...............But they do look cool  .

The 15x10,s will take care of handling problems

I agree about the unstable part. Kinda of scary especially how fast this one goes. I am probably going to sell it for some more bike money.

hey just a thought
i took a three speed trike and added a 6 speed freewheel hub
and a triple front chainring to make this 18 speed trike
i've currently robed the tires for other projects right know
but this is what she looked like about a year ago

Mike, That is very cool looking. Your attention to detail is great.

I decided the trike would be better to somebody who could use it. I sold it yesterday.
