i dont think this is a traditional "rat" since its not an old bike, but....it was free to me from somone who was throwing it out when she cleaned out her basement, so i rescued it and i rodded it a bit!
this started as a 20" trail bike, like a mini moutanin bike, had straight bars, was filthy, but had all its parts, it had knobby tires. i made a project of it cuz it had good center pull brakes with chrome brake arms, grip shift-which id never dealt with before, chrome rims and hubs, functioning multi speed system, and i knew i could learn some new stuff by tearing down a euro sized bb and 3 peice crank-which i'd never done before, and cuz i figured i could learn something about multi speed systems by taking it apart and putting it back together. and learn alot i did!! even had to buy a new wrench to take apart the crank!
i put on road tires, a different stem, apehangers, quick release front wheel and shock fork, well placed reflectors, changed the seat post, added a springer seat, and i put on a water bottle and its mount. i COMPLETELY disassembled this bike and rebuilt everything, new grease, new cables, its better than new imho! rides very comfy too, 6 speed, soft ride thax to sprung fork and seat, twist/grip shift, i dig it man! sitill doesnt shift correctly though, this is the first deraileur that ive taken apart and put back on a bike so im gonna have to have that tweeked by someone who knows better than i. she'll make somoene a great daily rider. i plan to seel or trade her this summer.
