This one has me confused...

The headtube is stamped 'LP' Nov.1978...right?

The headbadge is stamped 0299...Oct 26?

OR Jan.29 1979

I thought the headbadge number was the date the bike was put together at the factory.

Or did I translate the numbers WAY WRONG?

Maybe the frame was made in November, and the head badge a couple months later. The LP on the head tube is right as Nov 78, maybe it wasn't assembled until late Jan, the 29th, or the head badge was replaced at some point.

The headbadge # by the SCHWINN letter 'I' is the julian number on the calandar.

This frame hung around the factory from November until January?

I have no reason to beleive the headbadge was ever replaced.

What I cant beleive is that this frame hung around the factory for 3 months before being assembled.

Were the workers on strike that year?

In 1979 the Company was completely restructured. Major changes in all departments. Evidently the union didn't like the changes and went on strike in the fall of 1980 and also voted to join the UAW. The company pulled the plug on the factory and sent everything overseas. The end of an era. :( Gary

THANK YOU Gary for clearing this up!

Whadda ya think...should I restore this blue 27" 21 1/2" er thats now stripped to the core or just use it for the sum of its parts?

It only needs a period correct Schwinn front wheel to be complete.
